This article is the third in a series comparing Talmidaism with Islam.
1. A Comparison of Talmidi values and Moderate Islamic values.
2. A Comparison of the Character and Personality of Allah and YHVH: Are they the same God?
3. A Comparison of Talmidi Values and Extremist Islamist Values: 29 Islamic Values that Talmidis reject.
Shalom everyone,
The reason for writing this article, is because I feel that extremist Islam will become increasingly dominant in the western world as this century progresses (by the year 2100, Islam is projected to be in control over most of western Europe). Unfortunately, most people in the West have been trained to cover up their ears when they hear anyone criticise Islam. I personally feel this reaction is profoundly dangerous and self-destructive.
I have written a brief list of 29 values that Islamists hold, based directly on the Quran, the sayings of Muhammad (the Hadiths), and the life of Muhammad (the Sirah), which you can see a bit further down. Then I am going to go into detail with regard to precisely where these values come from. The explanatory detail is mostly for your study and reference. At the end of each section, there is a short piece about what moderate Talmidis believe about each issue.
As usual, for disclaimer purposes, I am making a clear distinction between Moderate Islam, which I don’t have a problem with, and Extremist Islamism, which I have a deep and very profound problem with – just as I have a problem with all fundamentalist iterations of religion, because I firmly believe they are offensive to God, and desecrate the holy reputation of God in the world. I would even go as far as saying that committing violence in the name of religion is a form of blasphemy – because it is doing evil and falsehood (shav) in the Name of God (thus breaking the 3rd Commandment).
The Importance of being Aware of these values in order to more effectively deal with Islamism
The far Left in the West unfortunately protects fascist Islamism, and furthers its cause by covering up what Islamism truly stands for. In the 1970s, the Ayatollahs in Iran used the far Left in Iran to project themselves to power, and once they were in power, they executed the Leftists in Iran – every single one.
If we wish to deal effectively with extremist Islamism, we need to understand what their mindset is, what their logic is, and where it all comes from (and I don’t mean the sanitised version that western leftists give us, but the real one, as described by extremist Islamists themselves). This is an area where western leaders fail dangerously, in that they assume that extremist Muslims hold the same values as we do and think as we do – they absolutely do not.
When I first learnt of all these things myself, so much of the puzzling motivations of Islamists came into focus. I was finally able to understand the nuances of why they did what they did. Quite frankly, I found it shocking – not ’surprising’ shocking, but ’appallingly horrific’ shocking.
One of the most unhelpful statements often put out by western leaders is that, “Extremist Islamic terrorism has nothing to do with Islam”. It is true that most Muslims in the West are ‘moderate’, but that becomes completely irrelevant if you want to be able to deal effectively with the philosophy and mindset that produces fundamentalist Islamic extremism, or Islamism. Islamism has EVERYTHING to do with Islam, because Islamists go by the plain, classical and original reading of the Quran and the teachings of Muhammad. They do what they do, because they are the things that Muhammad did. For Islamists, he is the perfect example of how to behave as a Muslim. A moderate Muslim, out of necessity, has to deny the radical passages in the Quran and hadiths, and severely reinterpret them, in order to be moderate. Islamists are frighteningly faithful to the words of the Quran and the sayings of Muhammad.
In Muhammad’s own lifetime, Islam became a religion of war and conquest, not peace
As it was originally conceived by Muhammad, Islam was invented primarily as a method of controlling conquered peoples. The so-called ‘peaceful’ verses in the Quran, often used by moderate Muslims and their far-left supporters, have all been cancelled and abrogated by later verses (the principle of Naskh – but even this principle is reinterpreted by moderate Muslims to mean something else). Abrogation means that if two verses contradict each other, then the verse that was given later (the violent one) abrogates and cancels out the one given earlier (the peaceful one).
In the Quran, the earliest verses composed in Mecca tend to sound peaceful, and these are the ones that Moderate Muslims quote. However, when Muhammad moved to Medina, he became a brutal, cruel warlord who robbed, threatened and murdered to establish his authority. He gained more power and more control, and as a result, the verses given in Medina are more violent. The practical result of this, is that all the peaceful verses given in Mecca have been abrogated and cancelled by all the violent verses given in Medina.
So-called ‘Moderate’ Muslims (how some Muslims manage to be moderate, IN SPITE OF what the Quran says)
Most British Muslims are from Pakistan; 43% of mosques in the UK follow the ultra-conservative Pakistani Deobandi tradition (a further 9% follow the hardline Saudi Salafist tradition). In Pakistan, while most people would claim to be ‘moderate’ (87%), nevertheless, support for extreme Sharia law is high (84%), such as stoning for adultery (83%), whippings and hand-severing for theft (80%), and the death penalty for leaving the Muslim religion (78%). 52% of British Muslims want homosexuality to be criminalised and punished in the UK. In 10 Muslim countries, including Gaza, gay people are executed.
What would be considered ‘moderate’ in Muslim societies and what is moderate in the West, are two entirely different things. Faithfulness to the fundamentals of Islam produces a mindset and a society which is not like anything that exists in the West. Most westerners cannot even imagine anything like Islamism. So if you want to effectively deal with extremist Islamism, it is not ‘moderate’ Islam you need to address or understand, but rather, you must understand the mindset of extremist Muslims, what their motives and goals are, and more importantly, not be naïve or blind, or foolishly deny where it all comes from.
‘Moderate’ Muslims try to promote Islam as inherently peaceful, kind and loving. However, what this succeeds in doing is to conceal what is inevitably coming down the road with fundamentalist Islam, so that ordinary non-Muslims are completely unprepared to deal with or counter the mindset of Islamists. The far left are assisting fascist Islamists, by turning people in the west into sheep ready for the slaughter.
What Islamic communities inevitably become
Within a single generation, countries such as Iran, Afghanistan, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey and Iraq have gone from being socially moderate, where women could dress as they wished, to being socially restrictive, where women have to be completely covered up, and ask their husband’s permission to go anywhere. Even pluralist Indonesia is heading that way.
Make no mistake: over time, any Islamic community will eventually be affected by and infiltrated by extremist elements, because extremism is literally what the Quran prescribes and commands; most ‘moderate’ Muslims are not able to counter what extremists say, because extremists can always show them that the Quran does not support their take on Islam. Extremists are confidently able to ground their philosophy in the words of the Quran, and in the life and teachings of Muhammad. In time, Islamists will be the majority everywhere if they are not opposed.
At the end of the day, moderates are fully aware of what Muhammad and the Quran require. The difference between a moderate Muslim and an Islamist, as the commentator Nick Matau said, is that “The radical Muslim will say, ‘If you don’t do what I say, I’ll chop your head off!’ And the moderate Muslim will say, ‘If you don’t do what I say, he’ll chop your head off!’” Most moderates will disagree with violence, but they won’t actively do anything to stop it, because they know that’s what Muhammad himself did – they will not dare go against their perfect prophet.
The Main Differences between Islamism and Talmidaism
If you examine the Quran as written, along with the teachings of Muhammad recorded in the Hadiths and in his biography (the Sirah), you will see that there are many values stated there which are in direct opposition to those held by Talmidaism. Here are the top 29 (the embedded links in blue direct you to videos where imams are actually teaching these things, or statements by leading Muslims, or where these teachings are being put into action):
1. Allah is an impersonal god; humans have no close or direct relationship with Allah
2. Islam is supreme, and is meant to rule over all other religions
3. Sharia law must rule every country, even non-Muslim ones
4. Armed Jihad is a Religious Obligation
5. The Punishment for leaving Islam is death
6. The punishment for speaking against Islam or Muhammad is death
7. Non-Muslims are legally inferior to Muslims, and are destined for Hell
8. The Inferiority and Inequality of Women is a divinely mandated order
9. Wife-beating is permitted
10. Polygamy is accepted as normal
11. Slavery is permitted and acceptable
12. Female captives are to be used as sex-slaves
13. Homosexuals are to be executed
14. Collective punishment of non-Muslims is normal and acceptable
15. Martyrdom through violent death will absolve you of all your sins
16. Eternal hatred of Jews is commanded by Allah and Muhammad
17. It is acceptable to lie to and deceive non-Muslims and use their naïvety against them in the cause of Allah and Islam
18. Questioning Islam, Allah and Muhammad is forbidden (there is no free enquiry)
19. Every human being is predestined, either to be saved or go to hell (moral responsibility is minimised)
20. Force and violence are acceptable and legitimate methods of spreading Islam
21. Loyalty to the Muslim Community (Ummah) overrules all moral demands
22. Everything Muhammad did was perfect and beyond reproach (even his cruelty and violence)
23. Salvation is only through absolute, unquestioning obedience
24. Marriage and sexual relations are permitted with underage girls
25. Polytheists and other pagans must be killed
26. Non-Muslims must be humiliated and viewed with contempt
27. Black Africans are spiritually inferior to Arabs
28. In Paradise after death, all men will receive 72 virgins to have eternal sex with them
29. Dogs are detestable and unclean animals, and should not be kept in the house as pets.
Now for a breakdown of these teachings. I reiterate that this is how fundamentalist Islamists think; moderate Muslims reinterpret the sources to force them to say something else.
The sections below are divided into a brief outline and explanation, then a list of the Islamic sources that the belief or teachings are based on, and then an outline of the Talmidi position on the subject (several of these have extended responses outlining the Talmidi stance on these issues):
1. Allah has no children, only slaves (How Human beings are to relate to Allah)
Islamist position:
Allah is an impersonal God, who has no direct relationship with human beings. Allah has no children, only slaves. Humans can only relate to Allah in the way that an unquestioning slave submits to their fearsome master. Consequently, there is no personal relationship with Allah, only submissiveness and total submission (which is what ‘Islam’ means). You can only gain Allah’s favour by doing what Allah has demanded, without question.
No human being has:
- any intrinsic dignity independent of total submission,
- nor moral autonomy,
- nor ethical partnership,
- nor any relational reciprocity with Allah
Submission is not a choice, but an ontological obligation. To exist is to be owned like a slave. Our relationship with Allah is defined by absolute submission, not love or care. The correct human posture toward Allah is fear (khawf), submission (islām), compliance (inqiyaad), and silence (samt) before being commanded to action. Human conscience has no authority, and mercy does not override judgment (since mercy and forgiveness are only given once submission and total compliance is fulfilled). By rejecting Allah and Muhammad as a non-Muslim, you reject all right to intrinsic worth, human dignity and moral standing (you become less than human).
Sources:
- Quran 19:92-93 – “It is not fitting for the Most Merciful One to have children. For there is no one in the heavens or on the earth who can come before the Most Merciful One except as a slave”
- Quran 19:95 – “And all of them will come to Him on the Day of Resurrection alone.” (that is, humans approach Allah alone, isolated, and powerless)
Talmidi position:
All human beings are the children of God; YHVH loves us unconditionally as a parent loves a child, and since YHVH is our universal Sovereign, all human beings are sons and daughters of a great Monarch and Sovereign (Deut 10:19; Amos 9:7).
Human beings have the right to disagree with God and question God (Gen 18:23–25, Ex 32:11–14, Num 14:13–20, Job 13:3, 42:7), even to doubt God (Ps 13:1–2, 22:1, 44:23–24, Jer 12:1, Hab 1:2–3) or challenge God (Lk 18:1–8); YHVH will still love us (Parable of the Prodigal Son). To argue with God is not to reject God; it is to take God seriously enough to care.
2. Supremacy of Islam Over All Other Religions
Islamist position:
Muslims are the best and superior community, destined to rule over the world, all peoples and all religions. Islamism views other faiths as “corrupt and irrelevant” (Quran 9:29). For those trying to reform Islam, or suggesting that Islam should be reformed, this mindset is crucial to understand: Islam is already a perfect religion in every way, so why would you want to reform it? Reforming it would imply that it is currently imperfect and needs changing. When interacting with Islamists, westerners need to understand that they consider themselves perfect people looking down with utmost contempt on followers of imperfect religions.
Sources:
- Quran 3:19 – “Indeed, the only religion in the sight of Allah is Islam.”
- Quran 3:85 – “Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and he will be among the losers in the Hereafter.”
- Quran 3:110 – “You [Muslims] are the best community brought forth for mankind”
- Quran 9:33 (also 61:9, 48:28) – “It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religion, even though the polytheists dislike it.”
- Quran 5:3 – “Today I have perfected for you your religion, completed My favour upon you, and chosen for you Islam as religion.”
- Quran 2:110 – “You [Muslims] are the best nation brought forth for mankind: you enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah.”
- Sunan al-Daraqutni 3:252 – “Islam is superior, and nothing is superior to it.”
- Musnad Ahmad – “I was sent with the sword until Allah alone is worshipped…”
- Ibn Majah 4287 – “You are the last of the nations, and you are the best and most honoured among them before Allah.”
Talmidi position:
Israel’s chosenness is a responsibility, not a statement of supremacy; no people is inherently superior (Deut 10:19; Amos 9:7). The only ‘true religion’ is Righteousness: “Love mercy, do justice, and walk humbly with your God”. Talmidaism teaches humility before God and responsibility towards other religions, not supremacy.
3. Islamic Religious Law Must Rule Every State
Islamist position:
Sharia must govern over all societies, politics, and law, whether they be Muslim or not. Democracy is incompatible with Sharia, since Sharia is from Allah, and democracy is merely a human-made construct. Any legal system not based entirely on revealed divine law is illegitimate. Sovereignty (ḥākimiyyah) belongs exclusively to Allah, and so humans have no right to create secular laws apart from Sharia (which is divine and immutable), so therefore democratic lawmaking is classed as disbelief or rebellion. Political legitimacy is defined by application of Sharia, not popular consent; if one’s opinion is based on anything other than the Quran, divine Sharia, or the teachings of Muhammad, then it is irrelevant.
Sources:
- Quran 5:50 – “Is it the judgement of ignorance (jāhiliyyah) they seek? Who is better than Allah in judgement for a people who are certain?” (democracy is equated with pagan ignorance)
- Quran 6:116 – “If you obey most of those on the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah.” (democracy has no moral authority)
- Quran 5:44-47 – “Whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed — they are the disbelievers … the wrongdoers … the rebellious” (democracy is classed as rebellion against Allah)
- Quran 12:40 – “Judgement (al-ḥukm) belongs to none but Allah.” (humans have no right to create secular laws separate to Sharia)
- Quran 4:59 – “O you who believe, obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you. If you dispute about anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger.” (that is, human authority is valid only if subordinated to divine law, and democratic majorities must not prevent Sharia being implemented, or override it)
- Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1718 – Muhammad said, “Every innovation is misguidance.” (democracy is a bidʿah [a foreign, post-Islamic innovation], so therefore illegitimate by definition)
- Sunan Abī Dāwūd 4607 – Muhammad said, “Whoever introduces into this affair of ours what is not from it, it is rejected.” (democratic political systems are religiously invalid foreign imports)
Talmidi position:
Torah is a moral covenant, not a coercive state system; ethics matter more than state power. There must also be a separation of religious power and civil power (in order that religion not become corrupted or power-mad – this is the reasoning behind priests not owning land or having secular power, and why a priest cannot be king and vice versa). Governance is by consent, not coercion, so even though Torah was from God, it had to be agreed to be accepted by the people of Israel. Jews are required to follow the civil law of the country in which they live (based on Jer 29:7), except if it requires us to do evil.
4. Armed Jihad as a Religious Obligation
Islamist position:
Violent struggle is a religious duty under many conditions. The world is divided into two realms: Dar al-Islam (the lands governed by Islamic law) and Dar al-Harb (literally, ‘House of War’ – those countries where Islam is not the ruling religion, even if they exist peacefully with Muslim nations). Islam is therefore considered to be in a permanent state of war with all non-Muslim countries, until they submit to Islam.
The sources show that Islam was meant to be spread through warfare, with the killing of non-Muslim combatants, the taking of captives as slaves, and the imposition of the jizya tax on those Christians and Jews who refused to convert to Islam. The jizya tax is like paying protection money to the mafia. The purpose of it is humiliation; it is intentionally a burden to pay, so that in time, non-Muslims find it financially advantageous to convert to Islam.
For many centuries, Islam was spread by the sword, with the threat of death hanging over conquered peoples. Muhammad taught his followers to fight against non-Muslims. Long before the Crusades, Muslim armies were fighting against southern and central Europe – wars which were completely unprovoked. In this video by Dr Bill Warner, he shows on a map how Islamic armies raided Europe for centuries, killing hundreds of thousands, and taking thousands more as slaves. He then contrasts that with a map of the crusades, and how that pales in comparison to the violent, bloody campaigns by Muslim armies against Europe. Whenever a self-righteous Muslim complains about the crusades, they should be reminded how Muslim armies raided Europe and slaughtered hundreds of thousands who refused to convert to Islam in the Middle Ages, taking many thousands as slaves.
Once a country has been taken over by Muslims, it is considered Muslim land forever. If the indigenous population later retakes their native country, they are considered to be fighting to take Muslim land away from Muslims. Spain is considered permanent Muslim land, which Muslims want to take back, and it is also why Muslims are so angry that Jews have retaken our original Jewish homeland, and turned a desert wasteland into a land flowing with milk and honey.
Sources:
- Quran 2:191 – “Kill them [those who disbelieve in Allah and Muhammad] wherever you come upon them”
- Quran 9:5 – “once the Sacred Months have passed, kill the polytheists wherever you find them, capture them, besiege them, and sit in wait for them in every place of ambush.”
- Quran 9:29 – “Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, nor comply with what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, nor embrace the religion of truth from among those who were given the Scripture, until they pay the jizya tax, willingly submitting, fully humbled”
- Quran 8:39 – “Fight them until there is no more fitnah [rebellion against Islam], and the religion is entirely for Allah…” (Muslims must fight against all the non-Muslims who live among them, and amongst whom they live; jihad is an ongoing obligation until religious dominance by Islam is achieved)
- Quran 9:36 – “…fight the polytheists all together, as they fight you all together…”
- Quran 2:216 – “Fighting has been prescribed for you, even though it may be hateful to you…” (Muslims must fight against non-Muslims, whether they like it or not)
- Quran 9:41 – “Go forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah…” (your lives are expendable in the cause of fighting wars for Allah)
- Quran 4:74 – “Let them fight in the cause of Allah who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter…”
- From Sahih al-Bukhari 25 (and Sahih Muslim 22): The Prophet said, “I have been commanded to fight the people [who reject Islam] until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah…”
- From Sahih al-Bukhari 2785: A man asked [the Prophet]: “What is the best deed?” He [Muhammad] said: “Faith in Allah…” He asked: “Then what?” [Muhammad] said: “Jihad in the cause of Allah.”
- Sahih Muslim 1904: The Prophet taught, “Allah guarantees that anyone who goes out for jihad…He will either admit him into Paradise or return him with reward…”
- Ibn Ishaq, Sirat Rasul Allah: The biography records that there were numerous expeditions (ghazawāt) led by Muhammad, battles against Meccan polytheists, Jewish tribes, and other groups.
From a strictly textual standpoint:
- The Quran:
- contains multiple commands to fight non-Muslims
- frames fighting as divinely mandated
- The Hadith:
- explicitly command to fight all non-Muslims
- define jihad as a central religious duty
- The Sīra:
- presents sustained military activity as precedent
Talmidi position:
War is strictly regulated and restrained; peace is preferred; war is tragic and conditional.
Jewish people are instructed by the prophet Jeremiah to co-exist peacefully with our non-Jewish neighbours, especially if we live outside the Land of Israel (Jer 29:7), because if they prosper, then we prosper. Israel is only at war with those who wish to exterminate us and wipe us out.
5. Death for Apostasy (Leaving Islam)
Islamist position:
Leaving Islam (apostasy) merits execution – it is considered a capital crime, and a rebellion against Islamic authority and the State. A fatwa can be put on an individual apostate, so that any Muslim who encounters that ex-Muslim is obliged to kill them.
Sources:
- Quran 4:89 – “If they turn away [from Islam], then seize them and kill them wherever you find them…”
- Sahih Bukhari 9:84:57, 3017 (also 6922, variants) – The Prophet said: “Whoever changes his religion, kill him!”
- Sahih al-Bukhari 6878 (and Sahih Muslim 1676): “It is not lawful to shed the blood of a Muslim except in three cases: … one who abandons his religion and separates from the community.”
- Ibn Ishaq, Sirat Rasul Allah: Accounts describe individuals who left Islam being killed following conquest or capture
- In the conquest of Mecca, some individuals are listed as to be killed, even if found at the Kaʿba, including former Muslims who had defected and opposed Muhammad
- Quran 16:106 – “Whoever disbelieves in Allah after his belief…upon them is wrath from Allah, and for them is a great punishment.”
- Quran 2:217 – “Whoever among you turns back from his religion and dies as a disbeliever – their deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and they are the companions of the Fire…”
- All classical Sunni schools of thought
From a strictly textual standpoint:
- The Quran:
- strongly condemns apostasy
- that apostates be killed wherever they are found
- Hadiths:
- provide clear, direct commands to execute apostates
- The Sīra:
- supplies historical precedents reinforcing this rule
Talmidi position:
No death penalty exists for belief or unbelief; conscience is ruled by God alone. If someone wishes to leave Massorite Talmidaism, they are wished peace and bidden well on their way.
The laws on apostasy in the Miqra strictly refer to worshipping other gods (Dt 17:2–5), while still claiming Israelite affiliation and identity.
There are also laws against enticing Jews to turn to other gods (Dt 13:6–10). These laws focus on active idolatry, not internal disbelief. They are deemed to be considered as breaking the covenant – breaking the terms and conditions of an agreement one has previously agreed to.
The Miqra does not explicitly address someone who privately ceases to believe, or who wants to leave the Israelite covenant out of personal conscience, without engaging in:
- idolatry,
- public opposition,
- or leading others astray.
- The text only prescribes penalties for visible, concrete acts of apostasy, especially idolatry, not for internal loss of faith.
In modern Talmidaism, mercy triumphs over judgment; we would not carry out capital punishment for any religious offence.
There is no penalty for private doubt:
- There is no biblical verse that prescribes execution, exile, or any civil punishment for a person who simply disbelieves in God without worshipping other gods.
- Silence in the Miqra suggests that personal loss of faith alone is not criminalised, as opposed to active and wilful covenant-breaking.
The term ‘godless’ (Hebrew: חָנֵף chaneif) doesn’t mean ‘atheist’. It refers to someone who has no personal ethics or morals, who delights in doing wrong and hurting others. Such a person is someone who deliberately seeks to do the opposite of what most decent people would consider right and good.
Atheism is therefore not a sin in the Israelite faith, as long as such a person lives an ethical way of life. Belonging to another religion is also not a sin. These two types of people (atheists and non-Yahwists) are considered ‘Righteous among the Nations’ if they live a good and ethical life.
6. Blasphemy as a Capital Crime
Islamist position:
It is forbidden to insult Muhammad or criticise Islam. Insulting Muhammad or Islam merits death. Interestingly, no such penalties exist for insulting Allah. There are no laws against blasphemy towards Allah; blasphemy laws only exist with regard to Muhammad and Islam. From an outsider’s point of view, this suggests that Muhammad and Islam are greater than Allah.
Sources: Insulting Muhammad (insulting the Prophet is a capital offence):
- The Killing of Kaʿb ibn al-Ashraf, Sahih al-Bukhari 4037 (also 3031, variants): The Prophet said: “Who will deal with Kaʿb ibn al-Ashraf? For he has offended Allah’s Messenger.” Muhammad ibn Maslama said: “I will deal with him…” Then he killed him.
- Killing of a slave woman who insulted Muhammad, Sunan Abu Dawud 4361: A blind man had a slave-mother who used to abuse the Prophet and disparage him…He killed her. The Prophet said: “Bear witness that her blood is permissible.”
- Killing of a woman poet (Asma bint Marwan), Ibn Ishaq, Sirat Rasul Allah (Sīra tradition): The Prophet said, “Who will rid me of Marwan’s daughter?” A man went and killed her…The Prophet said: “You have helped Allah and His Messenger.”
- Quran 9:61 – “And among them are those who abuse the Prophet…For those who abuse the Messenger of Allah is a painful punishment.”
- Quran 33:57 – “Indeed, those who hurt Allah’s Messenger – Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter…”
- Classical fiqh consensus (ijma)
Insulting Islam (fight against them until they submit to Islam):
- Quran 9:12 – “If they break their oaths… and defame your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief…”
- Mockery → equated with disbelief (kufr)
- Disbelief + hostility → linked with fighting or punishment
Insulting Allah (change the conversation):
- Quran 6:68 – “When you see those who engage in [mocking] Our verses, turn away from them until they enter into another conversation.”
- Quran 3:186 – “You will surely hear much hurtful speech…But if you are patient and fear Allah—that is of the matters [worthy of resolve].” (advice to endure the insult)
- Quran 25:63 – “When the ignorant address them harshly, they say: ‘Peace.’”
Talmidi position:
Blasphemy laws are generally rejected; God does not need human violence for defence. Any penalty for abusing the holiness of God’s Name or reputation is left up to God.
While Moses was alive, God stood against those who opposed Moses’s authority (Num 12:1–2, 9–10). However, after Moses’s death, there are no prescribed penalties for insulting, criticising or mocking Moses.
In Dt 18:19, any penalty for insulting or refusing to listen to a prophet is left up to God alone.
The Miqra does not prescribe a legal penalty for insulting Moses, criticising prophets, or criticising the Jewish religion as such. Therefore, there are no penalties for insulting, criticising or mocking Moses; and there are no penalties for insulting, criticising or mocking Yahwism / the Israelite faith / Judaism.
Talmidi response to blasphemy against the Holiness of God
In the Miqra, it is implied that blasphemy is misusing the holiness of God’s Name, or doing something that brings the reputation of God’s holiness or Holy Name into disrepute (e.g. 1Sam 2:25), or for using the Holy Name as part of offensive or abusive language (‘cussing’). The relevant passages are Lev 24:15–16, 24:10–14. In the Bible, the death penalty was prescribed, but there is no record outside of the Bible where this was ever carried out.
In Talmidaism, Blasphemy is defined as, “Deliberately bringing the reputation of God’s holiness or Holy Name into disrepute, or wilfully using the Holy Name as part of offensive or abusive language, or for intentionally doing evil in the Name of God – that is, using God’s authority to mandate or do evil, wicked or violent things”.
In the 3rd Commandment, the offence described is using the Name of God for ‘shav’. This literally means ‘emptiness’, and mainly refers to using God’s Name to swear false oaths, thus bringing the reputation of God’s Holy Name into disrepute (by trying to use God’s Name to prove that a statement is true, when in fact it is false). Shav also means ‘evil’; with this definition it forbids misusing God’s authority or reputation (‘name’) to do evil things. Violence in God’s Name (i.e. using religion to justify violence) is therefore forbidden, because it desecrates the Holiness of God.
Oppressing the poor is to revile God (Ex 22:27 / Christian bibles Ex 22:28).
The punishment for blasphemy is left up to God. However, if someone persistently and wilfully uses God’s Name in foul language, they will be asked not to attend community services or events, until they have repented and amended their ways. People who wilfully use Talmidaism to oppress others, to misrule, mislead, do wicked, violent or cruel things, and cast God as a tyrant and authoritarian, will be excluded from the community (based on Lev 18:29, 20:5, Num 15:30-31, being ‘cut off’), until they repent.
Enabling the sacred and holy Presence of God to dwell among us, by being a holy community, is an important concern for Talmidis. Someone who reviles and curses God by doing wicked things will cause God’s holy Presence to abandon us.
7. Permanent Legal Inferiority of Non-Believers
Islamist position:
Non-Muslims are second-class citizens (dhimmis) under Muslim rule. In Islamic society, Dhimmis are not permitted to build their houses of worship higher than a Mosque. In early Islamic society, if a Dhimmi encountered a Muslim while riding a horse, and the Muslim was on foot, the non-Muslim had to dismount. Dhimmis’ homes could not be higher than Muslim homes, and they often had to wear distinctive clothing to make it stand out that they were Dhimmis, and were to be treated as such (i.e. with humiliation and contempt).
The combined sources on non-Muslims collectively teach that non-Muslims are to be looked down on, and treated with contempt.

- Quran 9:29 – “Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, nor comply with what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, nor embrace the religion of truth from among those who were given the Scripture, until they pay the jizya tax, willingly submitting, fully humbled” (Jews and Christians have a lower legal status in Islamic society than Muslims [dhimmis] and must accept this status)
- Quran 3:28, 5:51 – “Let not the believers take the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers…”

- Quran 7:179 – “We have destined many … for Hell. They have hearts they do not understand with, eyes they do not see with, and ears they do not hear with. They are like cattle – in fact, they are even less guided [than cattle]!.” (referring to non-Muslims)
- Quran 63:8 – “…honour belongs [only] to Allah and His Messenger and the Believers…” (no respect or honour should be shown to non-Muslims, or to non-Muslim leaders or institutions)

- Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2167 (Book of Greetings): “Do not initiate greetings with the Jews or the Christians; and when you meet one of them on the road, force him to the narrowest part of it.” (Muhammad taught that Dhimmis were to be humiliated and treated with contempt)
The Pact of Umar (in classical jurisprudence, is the primary source for dhimmī restrictions). It contains such restrictions as:
- “We shall not build in our cities or in their vicinity any new monastery, church, convent, or monk’s cell…”
- “We shall not raise our voices in prayer… nor display crosses or books in the streets…”
- “We shall not build our houses higher than the houses of the Muslims…”
- “We shall show respect to the Muslims and rise from our seats when they wish to sit…”
- “We shall not imitate them in dress…”
Talmidi position:
Equal dignity of all humans created in God’s image (Gen 1:27). Gerim (foreigners resident among Israelites) were subject to the same laws as Israelites, and treated equally according to the law, and given the same rights and freedoms. However, a non-Jew cannot rule over Jews in the Land of Israel, in order to preserve the freedoms of Jews (non-Jews might one day impose restrictions on Jews, and invite others to do the same).
The Book of Leviticus 19:33–34 says, “When a foreigner (ger) sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. The foreigner who sojourns with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love them as yourself, for you yourselves were once foreigners resident in the land of Egypt…”
Ex 12:49, Lev 24:22 and Num 15:15-16 all state that Israelites and non-Israelites are to treated equally before the law. They are entitled to the same justice and civil protections.
Non-Israelites must not be oppressed (Ex 22:21, 23:9, Lev 19:33), but be shown equal fairness and justice (Dt 1:16, 24:17).
We are to treat non-Israelites as we would wish to be treated ourselves (Lev 19:34, Dt 10:18-19).
Provision was to be made to poor non-Israelites, as equally to poor Israelites (Lev 23:22, Dt 14:28-29, 24:19-21).
From these passages, the Miqra presents toward the ger (resident foreigner):
- One law applies equally to Israelites and Gerim (non-Israelite resident foreigners)
- Oppression of foreigners is forbidden
- Equal treatment is commanded
- Provision and welfare are required
- Inclusion in covenantal life is permitted for Gerim who worship YHVH alone
- Equal judicial treatment is mandated
8. Gender Inequality is commanded by Divine Order
Islamist position:
Men are divinely superior to women, something ordained by Allah. Women are the property of men to do with as they please. In traditional Sharia, a woman’s legal testimony is worth half that of a man’s (Quran 2:282). Sharia grants men unilateral divorce rights while restricting women’s access to it. There is a strict segregation of the sexes in public and private life. A woman cannot walk in front of a man when he is praying, otherwise she will invalidate his prayer (this makes a woman equal to a dog, because the same condition applies to a dog). Islamism mandates strict covering, such as the niqab or burqa, and in some strict Islamic societies, women must only speak when spoken to.
Women are not allowed to attend a funeral in a cemetery. There are hadiths in which the Prophet Muhammad is reported to have cursed women who “frequently visit graves” (zawwarat). Women are forbidden from lamenting and crying at gravesides, so that is the main reason why they are banned from cemeteries.
Sources:
- Quran 4:34 – “Men are in charge of women by what Allah has given, one over the other, and by what they spend from their wealth…So righteous women are devoutly obedient [to their husbands]…But those [wives] from whom you fear rebellion… admonish them… abandon them in beds… and strike them…”
- Quran 2:228 – “And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable. But the men have a degree [have hierarchical superiority] over them.”
- Quran 2:282 – “And bring to witness two witnesses from among your men. And if there are not two men, then a man and two women…so that if one of the women errs, the other can remind her.” (the testimony of one man is equal to the testimony of two women; a woman’s worth is only half of that of a man)
- Quran 4:11 – “Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females…” (a daughter only inherits half that of what a son gets)
- Quran 2:223 – “Your wives are a tilth [a field to be ploughed] for you, so plough your tilth as you will…” (women are viewed as sexually-available property, there to satisfy the sexual needs of a man; what the woman wants is irrelevant)
- Sahih al-Bukhari, ‘Book of Menstruation / Book of Faith’, Hadith 304 / 2658 variants: The Messenger of Allah said, “I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you [women]…[Even] a man of sense could be led astray by some of you.” So they asked: “What is the deficiency in our intelligence and religion?” He said, “Is not the testimony of a woman equal to half that of a man?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “That is the deficiency in her intelligence…And when she menstruates, she does not pray or fast—this is the deficiency in her religion.”
- Sahih Bukhari 1:6:301 – The Prophet said: “O assembly of women, give charity… for I have seen that the majority of the inhabitants of the Fire are you.” They asked: “Why is that?” He said: “You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you.
- Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 3241 / 5196 (variant numbering): The Messenger of Allah said, “I was shown the fires of Hell, and that the majority of its inhabitants were women…” (since Muhammad taught predestination, the destiny of most women is already destined to be Hell; women are more prone to sin and moral failure)
- Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Hadith ~1159: The Messenger of Allah said, “If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded women to prostrate to their husbands…” (Muhammad commanded an extreme form of submission to the husband)
- Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 5193: “If a husband calls his wife to bed and she refuses…the angels curse her until morning.” (a woman who declines to have sex with her husband on any given night, is cursed by heaven)
- Sirat Rasul Allah (Ibn Ishaq): Accounts in the Sīra include women treated as part of war booty, distribution of captives, under male control. These are cited alongside the Quran and Hadiths to support male dominance in social structure
Islamists base claims of gender hierarchy on a cumulative reading of:
- Quranic legal distinctions
- Hadith statements about women’s nature and roles
- Early historical practice in the Sīra
Taken together—especially when read literally and without reinterpretation—these texts are understood to establish:
- male authority
- legal inequality
- and spiritual inferiority of women
Talmidi position:
Men and women share moral agency and dignity before God. Since God created woman from the rib of a man, that means that they were created equal; Men and women are equally made in the image of God. Since God took a rib from close to the Man’s heart, God gave what God treasured most to Woman. Gen 1:27 says that God created both man and woman in God’s Image; both have the same divinely given responsibilities.
Gen 2:24 (they shall become one flesh) implies that the legal status of a man and a woman are equal; the opinions of a woman matter as much as a man’s does, and the say and influence of a husband and wife is meant to be the same in a marriage.
Dt 19:15 does not distinguish the gender of witnesses, so that testimony of a woman is equal to that of a man.
With inheritance, a son takes precedence over a daughter, but a daughter can still inherit (Num 27:8). This was mostly because of tribal inheritance being passed through the male line; this was to prevent property being transferred from one tribe to another (a concern expressed in Num 36:3).
Ex 21:10, Prov 5:18-19, Songs 1:2 all state that the needs of the wife are to be taken seriously, implying her needs are equal to the needs of a husband. The emphasis is on mutual desire and romantic reciprocity.
In the biblical laws to honour one’s parents, Ex 20:12 puts ‘father’ first, and Lev 19:3 puts ‘mother’ first. This implies that both parents have equal authority in the family.
In the Miqra, there is:
- ontological equality of marital partners (Genesis 1:27)
- marital unity (Genesis 2:24)
- ethical reciprocity (Leviticus 19:18)
- no permission for violence
- positive portrayal of righteous women (Prov 31:30)
9. Wife Beating Permitted
Islamist position:
Physical discipline of wives is allowed (in Islamic fundamentalism, it is encouraged).
Sources:
- Quran 4:34 – “Men are in charge of women by what Allah has given one over the other and by what they spend from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient… But those [wives] from whom you fear nushūz (rebellion/disobedience) – admonish them, then abandon them in beds, then strike them (wa-ḍribūhunna). But if they obey you, seek no means [i.e. inflict no other punishment] against them…”
- Quran 2:228 – “Men have a degree over them… [Men have a divinely ordained control over women, and are allowed to punish them as they see fit]
- Sahih Muslim, Book of Marriage (Kitāb al-Nikāḥ), Hadith ~1218 (Farewell Sermon tradition): “Fear Allah regarding women…You have taken them as a trust from Allah…If they commit clear indecency, then you may beat them, but not severely…” (classical interpretation is that men must not hit the face or leave a mark)
- Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Hadith ~1163: “…and strike them in a way that is not severe (ghayr mubarriḥ)…”
- Classical tafsir [scholarly interpretation, explanation, and commentary] (Ibn Kathir, al-Tabari)
From these texts, the Islamist argument typically proceeds as follows:
1. Quran 4:34 explicitly includes “strike them”
- understood in its literal sense
2. Hadith confirm permissibility
- multiple reports:
- allow striking
- qualify it (e.g. “not severe”)
- therefore:
- it is seen as regulated, not prohibited
3. Sequence implies controlled discipline
- admonition → separation → striking
- interpreted as:
- a last resort corrective measure
4. No categorical prohibition
- since:
- it is mentioned in the Quran
- and discussed in Hadith
- conclusion:
- it is considered permissible within limits
Talmidi position:
Violence against one’s spouse – wife or husband – is morally abhorrent.
In the Miqra, there is no narrative mention of any man beating his wife, even though there are mentions of marital conflict; nor are there any laws prohibiting it. This lack is significant. Whenever a good principle or ethical law is notably absent from the Torah, it is because it is not needed to be stated, since every Israelite follows such a good and ethical principle anyway. What that signifies, is that Israelite society cannot have been a society which allowed or even practised wife-beating, and so inherently saw it as something abhorrent (hence no law was needed).
There is a verse, metaphorically frowning upon violence towards one’s wife (Mal 2:13–16), and that cruelty against other human beings is wrong (Prov 11:17). The Malachi passage is interpreted as meaning that violence in marriage is a moral failure before God, not merely a private matter between two people.
There are also indications that striking any human being was seen as wrong (Ex 21:18-19, 21:22–25, 21:26–27). Ex 21:10 says that a man must take good care of his wife. Coupled with the principle to treat one’s fellow human beings as oneself (Lev 19:18), this would strongly exclude violence or abuse, even towards one’s spouse.
Yeshua taught that “Everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment…” (Mt 5:21–22), which expands to suggesting that anger towards one’s wife is also bad, since it could lead to violence. Yeshua also taught us to treat others as we would wish to be treated ourselves, which again would exclude violence towards one’s spouse. James taught that, “The anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” (James 1:20)
10. Polygamy as Normatively Acceptable
Islamist position:
Men may have up to four wives (this practice is not restricted to Islamists). Muhammad claimed that Allah revealed to him that he had a special dispensation to have more wives than any other Muslim.
Sources:
- Quran 4:3 – “If you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphans, then marry those women who seem good to you – two, three, or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one, or those whom your right hands possess [i.e. slaves]. That is more suitable, so that you may not incline [to injustice].”
- Quran 33:50 – “O Prophet, We have made lawful to you your wives to whom you have given their dowries, and those whom your right hand possesses from what Allah has given you as spoils of war, and the daughters of your paternal uncles and aunts, and the daughters of your maternal uncles and aunts who emigrated with you, and a believing woman if she gives herself to the Prophet and if the Prophet wishes to marry her – this [dispensation] is only for you, not for the [other] believers…”
- Quran 33:52 – “It is not lawful for you to marry women after this, nor to exchange them for other wives, even if their beauty pleases you, except those whom your right hand possesses…” (the limit does not apply to slaves taken as concubines)
Talmidi position:
Faithful monogamy is the ethical ideal (Gen 2:24, Prov 5:18-19, Ecc 9:9, Mal 2:14-15). The laws on adultery (Ex 20:14, Lev 20:10) assume that a man can only have one wife, and women only one husband. Although Jacob had several wives, this was due to him living in a social environment in Aramea where this was acceptable, and he was also tricked into polygyny by his uncle Laban. Abraham had one wife and a concubine, and the details of the story are meant to make us see that having more than one partner causes problems. The instances where a Hebrew had more than one wife are meant to make us see that polygyny causes disorder (1Sam 1:1-6, 1Kgs 11:1-4), whereas monogamy is order. The Covenant between God and Israel is viewed as a monogamous marriage (e.g. Isa 54:5-6, Jer 31:32, Ezek 16:8, Hos 2:19-20), and turning to other gods is likened to adultery (Ezek 16:32, Jer 3:20, Ex 34:14-15).
11. Slavery Permitted and Regulated
Islamist position:
Slavery is legitimate under Islamic law. In Mauretania, Libya, Sudan and Afghanistan, slavery is still practised. In some Arab States, the authorities turn a blind eye to slavery conditions (maids from South Asia are hired and then used as domestic slaves, without being able to legally appeal to anyone; their owners confiscate their passports so they can’t leave). This has been a source of tension with countries like Sri Lanka and the Philippines, where many maids come from.
Most of the largest slave-empires in history were Muslim, by far. The top 5 Islamic empires owned a combined total of 278 million slaves, most of them African, many were Indian. In contrast, the British Empire had 3.4 million slaves before slavery was abolished in 1834, and the US had 4 million slaves.
Islamic Mughal Empire (1526-1857CE): 112 million
Abbasid Caliphate (750-1258CE): 63 million
Islamic Empire of Mali (1214-1610CE): 57 million
Islamic Sultanate of Delhi (1206-1526CE): 36 million
Umayyad Caliphate (661-750CE): 10 million
Any Muslim who claims that Islam and Mohammad were the liberators of slaves are either lying to you, or genuinely have never been told the truth themselves. The emphasis was always on freeing slaves if they become Muslim (Quran 4:92 and 90:13). There is little to no incentive to free a slave if they remained non-Muslim. See section 27 below for what Muhammad himself thought of Black Africans and slaves.
Sources:
- Quran 47:4 – : “When you encounter those who disbelieve [i.e. those who reject Islam], strike at their necks. Then, when you have routed them, bind them firmly.” (Interpreted to authorise the capture and enslavement of enemy combatants, which means any non-Muslim; according to the principle of Dar el-Harb, that is, that any territory controlled by non-Muslims is deemed to be at war with Islam, so their citizens are legitimate targets for enslavement)
- Quran 16:71 – “Allah has favoured some of you over others in provision. But those who were favoured would not hand over their provision to those whom their right hands possess so they would be equal in it…” (establishes a hierarchy between master and slave, which should not be crossed)
- Quran 23:1-6 – “Successful indeed are the believers…who guard their private parts, except from their spouses or those whom their right hands possess…” (assumes lawful possession of slaves as a category of sexually-available persons)
- Quran 4:25 – “And whoever among you cannot afford to marry free believing women, then [he may marry] from those whom your right hands possess of believing slave-girls…” (Legal differentiation between free and enslaved persons)
- Quran 24:58 – “O you who believe, let those whom your right hands possess and those who have not reached puberty ask permission of you [before entering the house]…” (assumes the normal presence of slaves within households)
- Quran 33:50 – “O Prophet! We have permitted to you your wives to whom you have given their dowries, and those you already have, as granted to you by Allah…. We have ordained for them regarding … those whom their right hands possess (Used to argue that captives of war, ‘what your right hands possess’, were made lawful by Allah).
- Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Jihad (Kitāb al-Jihād wa’l-Siyar), e.g. Hadith 4138 / 4200 range: “We conquered Khaybar, took the captives [as slaves], and the booty was collected…” (this is what Muhammad did, and so since he was the perfect example of a Muslim, this is what all Muslims should do)
- From Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Sales (Kitāb al-Buyūʿ), Hadith ~2234: “The Prophet bought a slave…” (again, this is what Muhammad did, and so since he was the perfect example of a Muslim, this is what all Muslims should do)
- Sahih Muslim (Kitāb al-ʿItq), Hadith 1602–1604 range: These reports include references to slaves being owned, gifted, and inherited (Used to support the normalisation of slave ownership in Islamic society)
- Sahih Bukhari 2592, also 4138:“The Prophet was given some captives, and he distributed them. He gave a slave-girl to one of his companions…” (Slaves as Property, depicting the management and sale of slaves)
- Sahih Muslim, Book of Virtues (Kitāb al-Faḍāʾil), Hadith ~2771: Recognition of Ownership, References to the Prophet owning or being gifted captives (e.g., Mariya al-Qibtiyya / Mary the Copt).
Islamist arguments typically rely on:
1. Practice
- Book of Jihad (S.Bukhari) → captives taken
- Sahih Muslim 1438a → captives integrated into ownership system
2. Legal-economic activity
- Book of Sales (S.Bukhari) → buying slaves
- Book of Emancipation (S.Muslim) → ownership
3. Regulation
- Book of Emancipation (S.Bukhari 2545) → treatment rules
- Book of Oaths (S.Muslim 1661) → penalties for abuse
Islamic law regulates slave ownership, and even allows the freeing of slaves if they become Muslim, but does not abolish slavery itself. It accepts slavery as a normal part of Islamic society and therefore regulates it as such.
Talmidi position:
Slavery contradicts God’s redemptive will (Exod 20:2). The biblical laws on slavery acknowledged that slavery was part of human society at the time, but sought to regulate it so that keeping slaves was difficult or bothersome, eventually to become an undesirable thing. The aim over time was to gradually change people’s attitudes towards slavery, by making the keeping of slaves inconvenient. Eventually, it engendered a view in Jewish society that saw keeping slaves as wrong and objectionable. By Yeshua’s time, very few Jews kept slaves.
12. Sexual Slavery of Captives
Islamist position:
Female captives may be sexually used at whim (essentially, the slave must not object to being raped). Non-muslim women who have been captured in war can be sold to be used as sex-slaves. Under ISIS and in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, there are markets where captured women are sold as sex-slaves like cattle. It is permitted to pull an unsuspecting non-Muslim woman off the street and rape her to release your sexual tension.
Sources:
- Quran 4:24 – “And [also prohibited to you is sex with all] married women, except those whom your right hands possess [those non-Muslim women whom you capture in jihad]. This is the decree of Allah upon you…” (this makes an exception on extra-marital sex regarding captive women, even if they had prior husbands).
- Quran 23:5-6 – “And they who guard their private parts, except from their wives or those whom their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed.”
- Quran 70:29-30 – “And those who guard their chastity, except with their wives or those whom their right hands possess, for then they are free from blame.” (sex is permitted with wives, and unlimited with non-Muslim women captured in jihad)
- Quran 33:50 – “O Prophet, indeed We have made lawful to you your wives… and those whom your right hand possesses from what Allah has given to you [of captives]…”
- Quran 8:67-69 – “It is not for a prophet to have captives [of war] until he inflicts a massacre in the land… So consume what you have taken of war booty…” (This is used to support the broader framework of captivity and war booty, within which sex-slavery was historically understood)
- Sahih Muslim, Hadith (Book of Marriage, no. 1438a, also numbered as Sahih Muslim 8:3433): “We went out with the Messenger of Allah on the expedition to Awtas… and we took captive some excellent Arab women; and we desired them, for we were suffering from the absence of our wives, but we also desired ransom for them. So we asked the Messenger of Allah about coitus interruptus. He said: ‘It does not matter if you do not do it…’” (the women captured were Arab pagans from the Hawazin and Thaqif pagan tribal coalition)
- Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith (Book of Sales / Book of Jihad): “The Prophet… sent an army to Awtas… They met the enemy and fought them. They defeated them and took them as captives.”
- Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith (no. 2155): “Regarding the verse ‘and married women except those whom your right hands possess’… [It refers to] the captives taken in war.”
The above passages are also used to justify the seizure of non-Muslim girls and women off the street and rape them, in order to satisfy sexual needs. This is based especially off Sahih Muslim Book of Marriage, no. 1438, and Quran 70:29-30 (see above for full quote). Islamists consider all non-Muslim countries to be in a state of war with Islam (they are labelled as Dar el-Harb, in a state of war). Therefore, the taking of girls and women as sex-slaves or simply to rape them is permitted, because non-Muslim women raped in non-Muslim countries are classed as captives of war.
Islamist interpreters typically combine:
1. Quran:
- Allows relations with:
- wives
- “those whom your right hands possess” (that is, slaves as captives of war)
2. Hadith:
- Describes companions having sexual relations with female captives
3. Classical interpretation:
- Understands captives as property acquired through war
From this, they derive the conclusion that:
- Female captives may be:
- owned
- distributed or sold
- used as concubines
Talmidi position:
Sexual coercion is a grave injustice. Rape of married women is not permitted under any circumstances (it is a capital crime in Torah, Dt 22:25-27). If a man rapes an unmarried woman, then he is legally obliged to support her for the rest of his life (Dt 22:28-29, Ex 22:16–17), even though she lives with her father.
In the Torah, there is a section that deals with women captured in war (Dt 21:10-14). The verses make it clear that the women is not a sex-slave (verse 14) – she must be allowed to become the captor’s legal wife. However, before the captor is allowed to marry her, she must be allowed to mourn her dead parents according to the custom of her people. One of those pagan mourning practices was to shave one’s head. Allowing her to do this would make her unattractive, thus (hopefully) dampening the ardour of the captor. When read honestly, the law protects the woman and restricts what the captor can do. The passage is traditionally understood as a reluctant concession to the weakness of men’s nature, rather than approval of it. The woman is to be given her full freedom if the man no longer wishes to marry her (verse 14).
13. Punishment for Homosexual Acts by Death
Islamist position:
Same-sex relations are punishable by death. The usual punishment for gay people is by being thrown off a roof. Gay groups such as ‘Queers for Palestine’ have gone into Muslim shops in the US and UK, to express support for the Muslim community, and have been beaten up by the shopkeeper; or they have actually gone to a Muslim country, openly declared who they were and that they supported the Muslim struggle, only to be arrested and executed.
Fundamentalist Islamist ideologues who argue that same-sex relations must be punished by death, usually base the doctrine on a combination of passages from the Quran and several narrations in the hadith collections such as Sunan Abu Dawud, Sunan al-Tirmidhi, and Sunan Ibn Majah.
Sources:
- Quran 7:80-81, 27:54-55 – “And Lot said to his people: ‘Do you commit such immorality as no one in the world has preceded you with? Indeed, you approach men with desire instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.’” (male same-sex intercourse is condemned as an immoral act)
- Quran 26:165-166 – “Do you approach fellow males, and leave what your Lord has created for you as mates from among your wives? But you are a transgressing people.” (sexual relations are intended only between men and women)
- Quran 29:31 – “Indeed, we will destroy the people of this city; indeed, its people have been wrongdoers.” (the destruction of the people of Lot as evidence of divine judgement against such acts)
- Quran 4:16 – “If two among you commit it [the homosexual act], punish them both.”
- Sunan Abu Dawud 4462, Sunan al-Tirmidhi 1456, Sunan ibn Majah 2561 – ‘The Prophet said: “If you find anyone doing as the people of Lot did, kill the one who does it and the one to whom it is done.”
- Sunan Abu Dawud 38:4447
- Classical consensus in understanding and application of Sharia. Islamist writers refer to actions attributed to early Islamic leaders, such as Ali ibn Abi Talib, who in some reports is said to have ordered the execution of men accused of sodomy. These reports are used to argue that capital punishment for homosexual acts was implemented by the earliest Muslim authorities.
The argument typically proceeds as follows:
- Quranic narratives condemn the acts of “the people of Lot“.
- God destroyed their entire community as punishment.
- Hadith explicitly command execution for those who commit the same acts.
From this combination they derive the doctrine that same-sex relations warrant capital punishment under Islamic law.
Talmidi position:
Human dignity and compassion precedes sexual regulation; violence is forbidden.
The sin of Sodom was not homosexuality, but rather abuse of hospitality, which is considered a heinous sin in Israelite culture. The people of Sodom also had social and personal values which were in complete opposition to the values of God (Gen 13:13, “the people of Sodom were extremely wicked, and were sinning exceedingly against YHVH.”)
So what were the sins of Sodom? The people of Sodom did not worship YHVH. The specific intent for Gen 13:13, is that we are meant to gain the impression that their ways and values were in total opposition to the ways and values of YHVH (cf Ezek 16:49-50, Jer 23:14, Isa 1:9, 1:17); every value and principle that YHVH stood for, the people of Sodom would act in opposition to. We can therefore assume they had no inclination towards social justice, hospitality or kindness; they would have exploited the vulnerable, abused guests and visitors, fleeced people who traded with them, mistreated the poor and the disadvantaged, and they would have had no respect for the elderly; we can also assume that they often withheld the wages of their workers, made fun of the blind, the deaf and the disabled, abused children, ill-treated their animals, abandoned the sick to simply die, were insensitive to the suffering of others, and indulged in promiscuity and rape (against both women and men); also, that the wealthy among them idolised wealth and prestige, took whatever they wanted from the poor, and abused the lower classes for sport. We are meant to imagine that, anything we can think of as bad or undesirable conduct for any human being to engage in, these are the very things that the people of Sodom and Gomorrah did, as a routine part of their daily lives. Every positive tenet that YHVH represented, was lacking in the morals of the people of Sodom – and what’s more, they would have had no remorse for any of it.
In Lev 18:22 and 20:14, the operative phrase for interpretation is, ‘as one beds a woman’. If it were not there, it would legitimately imply that all sexual relations between two men is forbidden, but it doesn’t. If the verses had said, ‘A man shall not lie with a man’ or, ‘A man shall not know a man’ (with ‘know’ used in the sexual sense) – that would also have been sufficient, and no further clarification would have been needed, but it doesn’t leave it at that. It is also significant that the Hebrew Bible does not have any similar laws about female homosexuality.
We therefore need to understand the ancient mindset, and how they understood the act of intercourse. They would have had no understanding of innate sexual orientation. Sex was what you did, not your psychological orientation. In ancient times, the act of sex was considered something initiated by a man – that he took a woman to possess her – and this is what is specifically being prohibited by this verse: a man taking another man to possess him, or using intercourse as an act of domination or control, in the same way as he might ‘possess’ a woman (as the ancients understood it). This ‘taking a sexual partner to possess them’ is obviously not an acceptable part of our modern way of thinking, but we have to bear it in mind if we wish to understand the purpose of this prohibition, and so avoid any hateful, bigoted or inhumane interpretation of the verse.
Lev 18:22 prohibits a man sodomising another man as an act of humiliation or control. Lev 20:14 prohibits male prostitution between men. Any interpretation further than that goes against God’s righteous purpose.
14. Collective Punishment of Non-Muslims
Islamist position:
Entire communities of non-Muslims may be punished for collective guilt. For example, after the siege of Medina, Muhammad ordered the execution of all adult male members of the Jewish Banu Qurayza tribe; women and children were enslaved. To distinguish between the men and the boys, he lined up all the boys, had them drop their trousers, and if they had even one pubic hair, he had them beheaded.
Sources:
- Quran 8:25 – “And fear a trial which will not only strike those who have done wrong among you alone; therefore know that Allah is severe in penalty.” (This verse is used to say that punishment may affect both the guilty and the innocent within a community)
- Quran 7:4 – “And how many cities have We destroyed, and Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon.” (This passage refers to Allah’s punishment of entire towns or societies)
- Quran 11:67 – “And the cry seized those who had wronged [the Prophet], and they lay dead in their homes.” (shows collective punishment of communities that reject Muhammad’s message)
- Quran 9:36 – “And fight the polytheists all together as they fight you all together…” (permission to fight groups collectively rather than individuals)
- Quran 9:29 – “Fight those who do not believe in Allah nor in the Last Day… among the People of the Book… until they pay the jizyah with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.” (cited to justify warfare against entire religious communities)
- Quran 8:39 – “And fight them until there is no more fitnah [rebellion, unbelief] and the religion is entirely for Allah. But if they cease, then indeed Allah is Seeing of what they do.”
- Sahih Muslim 1745, Sahih al-Bukhari 3012 – ‘It was asked about women and children of the polytheists being killed during night raids. The Prophet said: “They are from them.”’ (all members of an enemy community shall suffer collectively in warfare)
- Sahih al-Bukhari 7108 – The Prophet said: “An army will invade the Ka’bah and when they reach a desert area the earth will swallow the first of them and the last of them.” It was asked: “How will the first of them be swallowed while among them are people who were not part of them?” He said: “They will all be swallowed, then they will be resurrected according to their intentions.” (collective disasters may strike both guilty and innocent within a group)
- Sahih Bukhari 3043; 4121, Ibn Ishaq, Sirat Rasul Allah (Guillaume), pp. 461–464 – ‘Narrated Ibn ‘Umar: The Prophet burned the date-palms of Banu al-Nadir and cut them down. It was concerning this that the Quran [passage] was revealed: “Whatever palm trees you cut down or left standing on their trunks, it was by Allah’s permission…” (Quran 59:5). (precedent that collective punitive measures against a hostile community are permissible; this episode refers to the conflict between Muhammad and the Jewish tribe of Banu al-Nadir in Medina, the destruction of agricultural property was part of a siege strategy)
- Sahih al-Bukhari 4122 – ‘The Prophet said to Sa‘d ibn Mu‘adh: “Judge among them.” Sa‘d said: “I judge that their fighting men should be killed, their women and children taken captive, and their property divided.” The Prophet said: “You have judged according to Allah’s judgement.” (the collective judgement imposed on Banu Qurayza after their surrender)
Talmidi position:
Each person bears their own moral responsibility (Deut 24:16); there is no collective guilt or punishment (this was the causeof Jacob’s anger at what Simeon and Levi had done at Shekhem, by killing all the men, even those who had done nothing wrong). You only share in sin-guilt if you defend a sin or an evil (Prov 17:15).
15. Martyrdom Through Violent Death
Islamist position:
Dying while killing others guarantees entry into paradise. You have to understand that for all Muslims, radical or moderate, the state of paradise (their equivalent of heaven) is never guaranteed at any point during life, even if you follow all of Allah’s and Muhammad’s demands to the time of your death. It is only after death that you get to find out if you are going to paradise or hell. However, if you kill a non-Muslim in jihad, or are killed by a non-Muslim, then you are guaranteed to go to paradise. This is the prime motivation behind killing non-Muslims, which western leaders do not understand, and why radical Muslims want to die at the hands of non-Muslims – by allowing their children to be killed in war, they are sending their children to paradise. It is the reason why Gazan women deliberately put their children in the way of weapons of war, while at the same time, using their children’s deaths as sympathy-propaganda against Israel. To them, the death of their children is a win-win situation.
Sources:
- Quran 3:169-170 – “And do not think of those who are killed in the way of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision, rejoicing in what Allah has given them of His bounty…” (Those killed in jihad immediately enter a blessed state with Allah)
- Quran 2:154 – “And do not say about those who are killed in the way of Allah, ‘They are dead.’ Rather, they are alive, but you perceive it not.” (martyrs are alive with Allah)
- Quran 9:111 – “Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties in exchange for Paradise: they fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed… It is a true promise binding upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Quran.” (this links killing or being killed with the promise of paradise)
- Sahih Bukhari 36:2 – “The person who participates in Allah’s cause, and nothing compels him to do so except belief in Allah and His Messenger, will be recompensed by Allah either with reward or booty, or will be admitted to Paradise.”
- Sahih Muslim 1909 – “Allah guarantees that He will admit the Mujahid in His cause into Paradise if he is killed…” (death in jihad guarantees paradise)
- Sunan al-Tirmidhi 1663 – “The martyr has six things with Allah: he is forgiven with the first drop of blood… he is shown his place in Paradise… and he is married to seventy-two wives from the houris (paradise-virgins)…”
- Sahih Bukhari 2797 – “By Him in whose hand is my soul! I would love to be martyred in Allah’s cause and then come back to life and be martyred again, and then come back to life and be martyred again…”
- Sahih Bukhari 4:52:54 – ‘Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “By Him in Whose Hand my soul is! Were it not for the fact that some men dislike to be left behind me, and that I cannot provide them with mounts, I would never remain behind any army going for jihad in Allah’s Cause. By Him in Whose Hand my life is! I would love to be martyred in Allah’s Cause and then made alive, and then martyred again, and then made alive, and then martyred again, and then made alive, and then martyred again.”
Talmidi position:
Life is sacred; death in war is not a shortcut to holiness. In fact, fighting and killing in war makes you ritually impure (Num 31:19–24).
16. Hatred of Jews as a Permanent Religious Theme
Islamist position:
Jews are considered enemies of Islam until the end of days. The Quran requires Muslims to hate all non-Muslims forever. It is forbidden to take non-Muslims as close friends (Quran 5:51).
The Muslim hatred of Jews did not start with the founding of the State of Israel, it started 1400 years ago, with Muhammad. When Jews refused to accept him as a prophet, his attitude turned completely against us, so that there will be eternal enmity towards Jews. Islam is anti-Jewish because Muhammad was anti-Jewish. Muslims are obliged to hate Jews forever, because Muhammad hated all Jews.
The argument typically proceeds as follows:
- Qurʾān describes Jews as hostile (5:82).
- Jews opposed Muḥammad historically (Medinan narratives).
- Hadiths predict a final war against Jews (Muslim 2922).
- Therefore Jews are permanent enemies of Islam until the end of time.
This framework is particularly prominent in certain modern Islamist movements.
Sources:
- Quran 5:82 – “You will surely find the most intense of the people in hostility toward the [Muslim] Believers to be the Jews and the polytheists…”
- Quran 60:4, “We denounce you! Enmity and hatred has surfaced between us and you, forever, until you believe in Allah alone.”
- Quran 2:120 – “The Jews and the Christians will never be pleased with you until you follow their religion…” (Note: this may be true of Christians, but it is not true of Jews, since we believe that not all people are called to become Jews; there is a place for all decent religions in the Kingdom of God)
- Quran 5:64 – “The Jews say, ‘The hand of Allah is chained.’ Their hands are chained and they are cursed for what they said…” (used to portray Jews as eternally cursed)
- Quran 2:65 (also 5:60 and 7:166) – “And you certainly knew those among you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath, so We said to them: ‘Be apes, despised.’” (used to claim that Jews are no better than apes)
- Quran 5:60 – “Those whom Allah has cursed and with whom He became angry and made of them apes and pigs…” (similarly used to claim that Jews are no better than pigs)
- In Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2922, also 41:6985: “The Hour will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Muslims will kill them [all]; until the Jew hides behind stones and trees, and the stones and trees say: ‘O Muslim, O servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him,’ except the gharqad tree, for it is the tree of the Jews.”
Talmidi position:
Hatred of any people is a sin; even enemies are human. Jews do not consider Muslims our enemies; we have no problem with moderate Muslims who are willing to live alongside people of other religions in peace.
17. Deception of Non-Believers Permitted (Taqiyya / Kitman)
Islamist position:
Deception is allowed to advance Islam. Muslim preachers are permitted to lie to non-Muslims to make Islam, the Quran and Mohammed seem attractive, especially by hiding all the unpleasant aspects of them (16:106, a practice known as kitman). Taqiyya is actively lying to conceal the truth by telling untruths; kitman is omitting to tell the whole story.
Modern Islamist ideologues argue:
- Islam is under ideological attack.
- Therefore dawah (proselytisation and seeking converts) occurs in a state of “war.”
- Therefore wartime deception rules and principles apply.
It is often the case that Muslims will believe one thing, and tell non-Muslims something completely different, in order to deceive people into becoming converts. A prime example of this is that Muslims seek the sympathy of westerners when Muslim jihadists are killed. What they don’t tell westerners, is that being killed by non-Muslims, or killing non-Muslims, guarantees them being sent to paradise / heaven. Jihadists garner sympathy for the deaths of Muslim children. However, when children are killed in war, if they died through the actions of non-Muslims, then their child is guaranteed to go to heaven.
In front of western cameras, Muslims cry ‘Victim!’ and ‘Islamophobia!’ but in mosques they smile, laugh and preach the takeover of the West.
If you make a peace-deal with a non-Muslim because you, as a Muslim, are in a weak position, then you can break that agreement once you are in a militarily stronger position to take advantage of a non-Muslim, because this is what Muhammad did (e.g. Treaty of Ḥudaybiyyah, recorded extensively in Sahih al-Bukhari [Book of Conditions; Book of Military Expeditions], and Sahih Muslim [Book of Jihad and Treaties]). In effect, peace treaties with Muslims are not worth the paper they are written on. When asked why he made a peace deal with Jews at Camp David in 1978, the then Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, quoted the case of the Treaty of Ḥudaybiyyah (meaning he would break the Camp David Peace Deal once the Palestinians were in a militarily stronger position).
Sources:
- Quran 3:28 – “Let not the believers take the disbelievers as allies instead of the believers… except when taking precaution against them in prudence (tuqāt).”
- Quran 3:54, 7:99, 8:30 – “[Humans] deceive and Allah deceives; and Allah is the best of deceivers”
- (Sahih Bukhari 3029-3030): “War is deceit.”
- In Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2605: “Lying is not permissible except in three cases: a man speaking to his wife to please her; lying during war; and lying in order to make peace between people.” (the act of seeking converts to Islam is part of the process of war, and so deceiving potential converts is acceptable; often converts only find out the awful truth about Islam after they have converted, and then it is too late, because leaving Islam is a capital crime, punishable by death)
- Classical jurisprudence
Talmidi position:
Truthfulness is a core ethical demand in social situations and in governance (deception would only be permitted to save life, such as to keep your country safe). Justice demands the truth, and an agreement is binding (that is the very nature of pacts and covenants). Even YHVH is self-bound by Truth, and by the agreements and covenants that YHVH has made. Before a proselyte converts to Judaism or Talmidaism, they are always made fully aware of all the positives and negatives of converting; nothing is concealed. The whole truth is laid bare before a potential convert, so that they can make an informed decision.
18. Suppression of Free Inquiry
Islamist position:
Questioning core doctrines is forbidden. Core doctrines must not be questioned, religious authority must be obeyed, and public dissent or theological innovation (bidʿah) is forbidden.
Fundamentalist Islamists typically argue:
- Revelation is complete and final.
- Human reasoning must submit to transmitted texts.
- Innovation (bidʿah) and new ideas corrupt Islam.
- Excessive questioning have led previous communities astray.
- Therefore, questioning settled and established doctrine is spiritually dangerous and criminal.
Sources:
- Quran 5:101-102 – “O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if they are pointed out to you, will distress you… A people before you asked such questions, and then became disbelievers because of them.”
- Quran 3:19 – “Those who disbelieve in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in reckoning.”
- Quran 33:36 – “It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, to have any choice in their affair…”
- Quran 39:9 — “Are those who know equal to those who do not know?”
- Quran 4:65 – “They will not truly believe until they make you judge in what they dispute among themselves, then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in full submission.” (This verse is frequently used to support unconditional doctrinal submission)
- Quran 24:63 – “So let those beware who dissent from his order, lest a trial strike them or a painful punishment.” (interpreted as warning against resisting Muhammad’s authority)
- Quran 49:1 – “O you who believe, do not put yourselves before Allah and His Messenger…” (Used to argue against independent reasoning that contradicts transmitted doctrine)
- Sahih Muslim, Hadith 867: “The best speech is the Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The worst of matters are newly invented matters; every innovation (bidʿah) is misguidance.” (Often used to discourage theological innovation, reform, or new ideas)
- Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 2697 (also in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1718): “Whoever introduces into this matter of ours that which is not from it, it is rejected.” (Used to argue that doctrinal additions or reinterpretations are invalid)
- Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 7288 (also in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1337): “Leave what I have forbidden you, and do what I have commanded you as much as you are able. For those before you were destroyed because of their excessive questioning and their disagreement with their prophets.” (This hadith is frequently cited against excessive theological questioning)
Talmidi position:
Questioning, reasoning, and moral wrestling are sacred duties. As children of God, we have the right to question. Beliefs and teachings are not imposed, because the journey of spiritual seeking is valued, but definitive answers are available to those who need them (such as those who need certainty).
19. Predestination Minimises Human Moral Responsibility
Islamist position:
Allah decrees all acts, including evil acts. Therefore humans have minimum responsibility for their own evil. If Allah decrees an evil thing should be done, then humans are not responsible for it.
Islamist predestinarians typically reason:
- Allah created all things (54:49)
- Allah created human actions (37:96).
- Human will depends on divine will (76:30; 81:29).
- Destiny is written before birth (Bukhārī 3208).
- Therefore, all acts — including sinful acts — occur by divine decree.
Radical Islamist preachers use this to argue that:
- Moral responsibility is secondary to divine sovereignty.
- Martyrdom is pre-appointed.
- whatever evil humans do has been pre-ordained by Allah
According to the theological logic of Islamic predestination, whatever non-Muslims do to counter Islamic extremism has been pre-ordained by Allah. This logic is unknown to westerners, so the victim-narrative can be used as propaganda against non-Muslims, to garner the sympathy of the far left.
Sources:
- Quran 37:96 – “Allah created you and what you do.”
- Quran 54:49 – “Indeed, We have created everything, perfectly preordained”, (emphasising that Allah has created both good and evil; even the actions of evil people are controlled by Allah)
- Quran 76:30 – “You do not have will except that which Allah wills. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Wise.”
- Quran 81:29 – “You do not will anything unless Allah, Lord of the worlds, wills it.”
- Quran 6:125 – “Whomever Allah wills to guide, He opens his breast to Islam; and whomever He wills to misguide, He makes his breast tight and constricted…” (this means that there are those predestined to become Muslims, and those who are predestined to remain infidels, and therefore predestined to go to hell; Allah decrees guidance and misguidedness)
- Quran 16:93 – “If Allah had willed, He could have made you one community, but He lets go astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills…” (there are some that Allah wills to be good, and those that Allah wills to be sinful; therefore the sins of a sinful person are not their fault, but they are predestined to go to hell)
- Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2653: “Allah wrote down the decrees of creation fifty thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth.” (everything is predestined to happen, both good and evil, because it is Allah’s will – if you suffer evil, then it is Allah’s will that you suffer — Allah wants you to suffer, and therefore you have no right to question it)
- Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 3208 (also in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2643): “Then the angel is sent to him and writes four things: his provision, his lifespan, his deeds, and whether he will be wretched or blessed…” (all your actions are predestined, you have no free will, you are merely following a script; you are not responsible for your sins or crimes; whether you are going to paradise or hell is decided before you are born)
- Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2655: “Everything is by [Allah’s] decree — even incapacity and capability.”
Islamists use these passages to argue that moral responsibility is secondary to divine sovereignty. If an evil person does evil, they are merely acting according to what Allah has decreed for them to do.
Talmidi position:
All human beings have free will – our actions are not predestined (there are many possible paths, so the future is not fixed). God is not a tyrant or a puppetmaster, who decided what we are going to do. Humans are morally responsible partners with God. If a wicked person does a wicked thing, they alone are to blame, not God – they cannot say, ‘God made me do it’. Every individual is answerable to God for their evil and their wickedness, because they chose to do evil. ‘Predestination’ is not a defence or excuse for committing evil.
20. Expansion of Religion by Force as Legitimate
Islamist position:
Territory should expand under Islamic rule. The far-left demonstrate against colonialism in support of Islam, but Muslims are the biggest and most violent colonisers in all of human history. Before Muslim Arabs took over the countries they now own, there were other peoples, other cultures, other languages and other religions in those lands, before Arab Muslims took over. When Islam takes over a country, they don’t just Islamise it, they extinguish its native culture. In the early Islamic period, Indigenous peoples were essentially Arabised.
Sources:
- Quran 9:29 – “Fight those who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, nor comply with what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, nor embrace the religion of truth from among those who were given the Scripture, until they pay the jizya tax, willingly submitting, fully humbled”
- Quran 9:5 – “Then when the sacred months have passed, kill the polytheists wherever you find them, seize them, besiege them, and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush.”
- Quran 2:193, 8:39 – “Fight them [the non-Muslims] until there is no more fitnah [rebellion, conflict], and until religion is entirely for Allah…”
- Quran 47:4 – “When you meet those who disbelieve in battle, strike their necks until you have inflicted slaughter upon them…”
- Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 25, Sahih Muslim, Hadith 22: “I have been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah…”
Classical Sunni jurisprudence (particularly in the Mālikī, Shāfiʿī, and Ḥanbalī schools) developed the doctrine that the world is divided into two categories:
- Dār al-Islām (Realm of Islam – that is, those countries ruled by Islam), and
- Dār al-Ḥarb (Realm of War – that is, all territories and countries ruled by non-Muslims; Sharia considers Islam to be in a permanent state of war with countries ruled by non-Muslims).
Under this framework:
- Expansion of Islamic governance was considered legitimate.
- Non-Muslim polities were either to accept Islam, pay jizyah, or face war.
- Forced conversion of “People of the Book” was generally prohibited; instead, political submission of all Jews and Christians was required under Muslim rule.
Talmidi position:
Faith cannot be imposed, it must be a free choice. The countries of the world belong to the peoples and nations who live in them, but only the Holy Land belongs to the Jewish people. The only territory that God has given to Israel is defined as the borders of the Holy Land (from the river Jordan to the Mediterranean, and from the foothills of the Lebanon and the Golan to the Gully of Egypt, which is just south of the Gaza Strip – pre-Solomonic version of Num 34). Israel has no legitimate or divinely sanctioned right to take any other land (cf Dt 2:5, 2:9).
In the Talmidi community there are Talmidi Noahides (essentially Talmidi Gentile Yahwists). These are Gentiles who hold Talmidi beliefs, and practise Talmidi ethics, but do not practise Jewish customs, rituals or culture. They maintain the cultures of their birth, as long as individual customs do not conflict with Yahwist values (such as rejection of the worship of idols). Indigenous cultures are valued in Talmidaism, and conversion to Talmidaism is seen as an individual calling from God, not something to be imposed on everyone. Just as not everyone is called to become a Jew, so too, not everyone is called to become a Talmidi. God accepts the existence of other religions (based on Dt 4:19).
21. Loyalty to the Ummah Goes Above All Moral Bonds
Islamist position:
Religious loyalty to the worldwide Muslim Community (the Ummah) supersedes universal ethics. Islamist movements often elevate the doctrine of al-walāʾ wa-l-barāʾ (“loyalty and disavowal”) in such a way that loyalty to the Muslim community and disavowal of non-believers overrides all morality.
Sources:
- Quran 3:28 – “Let not the believers take the disbelievers as allies (awliyāʾ) instead of the believers. And whoever does that has nothing with Allah — except when taking precaution against them in prudence…” (deceitful friendship with non-Muslims is permitted in order to preserve Muslim lives, or if it is politically or militarily advantageous to the Muslim community)
- Quran 5:51 – “O you who believe, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies; they are allies of one another. Whoever among you takes them as allies is surely one of them…”
- Quran 9:23 – “O you who believe, do not take your fathers and your brothers as allies if they prefer disbelief over belief. Whoever among you takes them as allies — then it is those who are the wrongdoers.”
- Quran 58:22 – “You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having any affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their own fathers or their sons or their brothers or their own kindred…”
- Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith 4681: “The strongest bond of faith is loyalty for the sake of Allah and enmity for the sake of Allah.”
- Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith 4031: “Whoever imitates a [non-Muslim] people is one of them.”
- Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith 2645: “I disavow every Muslim who resides among the polytheists.” (this forbids Muslims from choosing to live amongst non-Muslims, unless it is for the express purpose of converting them to Islam)
In the theological concept of al-Walāʾ wa-l-Barāʾ, they assert:
- Absolute loyalty to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers,
- Complete disavowal of disbelief and its adherents (i.e. all non-Muslims).
In Islamist ideology, this becomes a framework in which:
- National identity is rejected if it is not Muslim,
- Family bonds are secondary,
- Moral obligations toward non-Muslims are minimised or denied,
- Violence against disbelievers and non-Muslims is religiously justified.
This basically means that Muslims must put the Ummah and Islam first; loyalty to non-Muslim western countries is irrelevant, and can be faked if necessary (so if someone asks you if you are British or American first, you can lie and say yes).
Talmidi position:
Justice, compassion, and truth override tribal or in-group loyalty. God and God’s righteous values should come before one’s political beliefs. A wrong is a wrong, and a sin is a sin, even if they are committed by one’s own people or co-religionists, and making excuses for their sins is considered an abomination before God (Prov 17:15)
Once again, the passage in Jer 29:7 means that Jews must not work against the country they live in, or the people they live amongst, but rather seek their prosperity, because if they prosper, we prosper.
22. Everything Muhammad did was perfect and beyond reproach
Islamist position:
All Muhammad’s deeds, without exception, are examples of how to be a perfect human being, and are to be followed by all Muslims. He was the perfect example of a Muslim, so if Muhammad did it, in spite of his deeds being sinful, evil and cruel by the standards of most other decent religions, they were perfect before Allah, and so his deeds are to be emulated. Muhammad was a paedophile, so paedophilia is acceptable; Muhammad murdered those who disagreed with him, so you must kill those who disagree with Muhammad; Muhammad bought and used women as sex-slaves, so that is permitted too (this is why it is common for Muslim men to just seize women and rape them, without a second thought, because it is something Muhammad did).
- Muhammad married Aisha when she was 6, and had intercourse with her when she was 9 (Sahih Bukhari 5133; 5158, Sahih Muslim 1422). Consequently, traditional Muslim societies allow sex with children
- Muhammad ordered or approved targeted killings of poets and critics (Sahih Bukhari 4037 [Ka‘b ibn al-Ashraf], Ibn Ishaq, pp. 550–552).
- Muhammad led and authorised military campaigns to expand Islamic rule (Sahih Bukhari 25; 2787, Ibn Ishaq, battles of Badr, Uhud, Khaybar). Consequently, war and terror is a legitimate means of spreading Islam
- Muhammad exceeded the four-wife limit he imposed on other Muslims (Quran 33:50, Sahih Bukhari 4788). This sets the precedent for Islamic leaders exempting themselves from the rules they impose on others
Here are some of the weirder things that Muhammad did and taught:
- Supernatural Physiology: Traditional sources state that Muhammad never yawned in his lifetime. It is also recorded that he was exceptionally strong, with one narration claiming he was given the “strength of thirty men” in certain physical capacities (to find out where he got the strength of 30 men from, search google for ‘Muhammad and the men of al-Zutt’).
- Sucking the tongues and lips of his grandsons: Some narrations found in Musnad Ahmad (16245 and 16848) describe Muhammad “sucking on the tongue or the lips” of Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn his grandsons. The text often includes a blessing: “No tongue or lips that the Prophet sucked on will be tormented by the fire of Hell”.
- Weird Healing Remedies: He famously recommended honey for a man with stomach trouble; when the man returned saying it hadn’t worked, Muhammad reportedly said, “Allah has told the truth, but your brother’s abdomen has told a lie”. He also suggested that a fly falling into a drink should be fully submerged because “one of its wings has a disease and the other has the cure”. Muhammad prescribed camel urine as a medicinal remedy for a group of sick travellers.
- Night-time encounters with the men of Al-Zutt: Google for yourself what Muhammad did with the men of Al-Zutt, in order to acquire the strength of 30 men
- Scrambling for Water: In Sahih Bukhari (189), it is recorded that when Muhammad performed ablution, his companions “were almost fighting with each other” to collect the water that dripped from his limbs. They would rub it on their faces and skin. Some narrations, such as those in Sahih Muslim, describe followers drinking the leftover water from his bowl after he had washed, believing it contained spiritual barakah (blessings) and healing properties.
- Encounters with the Unseen: He instructed followers not to use bones or animal dung for cleaning themselves after the toilet, as these were “the food of the Jinns”.
- Odd Signs and Superstitions:
- Sneezing vs. Yawning: He taught that “Allah loves sneezing but hates yawning,” associating the latter with Satan.
- Shoe Etiquette: He forbade walking in only one shoe; he insisted people must either wear both or go completely barefoot.
- Garment Length: He strictly prohibited wearing garments that hung below the ankles, stating that “whatever is below the ankles… will be in the Fire [of Hell]”.
Talmidi position:
When the Bible describes the faults, sins and failings of a good person, we are supposed to use our God-given moral conscience to recognise them as failings, and so not copy them. No prophet is above moral scrutiny. Just because a renowned biblical figure did something, does not mean that we should automatically copy it, especially if it is morally or ethically objectionable.
23. Salvation is only possible through absolute, unquestioning obedience
Islamist position:
Strict Islamism emphasises salvation only through correct ritual and adherence to Sharia. If a Muslim has sinned, and has therefore been disqualified from Paradise, then on the last day, if they throw a Jew or a Christian into hell, they will be redeemed (Sahih Muslim 2767a). If they are killed by a non-Muslim, thus undergoing martyrdom, then they are guaranteed to go to Janna (paradise / heaven), despite their numerous sins in life.
Even up to the day of their death, no Muslim would know whether they are going to Paradise or hell. Killing non-Muslims, or being killed by non-Muslims, is the only way of guaranteeing going to Paradise. This is why Islamists desire so much to kill or be killed – either one will send them to paradise; it is a strong incentive indeed.
- Sahih Muslim 2767a – ‘Abu Musa reported that Allah’s Messenger said, “When the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah will deliver to every Muslim a Jew or a Christian and say: That is your redemption from Hell-fire”.
- Quran 9:111 – “Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed…”
- Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī , Book 56 (Kitāb al-Jihād wa’l-Siyar), Hadith 2787: “The person who participates in [holy battles] in Allah’s cause, and nothing compels him to do so except belief in Allah and His Messengers, will be recompensed by Allah either with a reward, or booty, or being admitted to Paradise…”
Fundamentalist Islamists typically argue:
- Fighting non-Muslims in jihād is commanded by God.
- Killing in that context is obedience.
- Obedience in this supreme form guarantees Paradise.
- Dying in the act guarantees martyrdom and immediate Jannah.
The key hinge is the phrase “fī sabīl Allāh” (“in the path of Allah”). They believe that:
- Killing non-Muslims in what they deem lawful jihād earns divine reward.
- Being killed while doing so guarantees Paradise.
They base this primarily on:
- Qurʾān 9:111
- Qurʾān 3:169–170
- Qurʾān 2:154
- Qurʾān 47:4
- Multiple ḥadīth in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim regarding martyrs
Talmidi position:
Salvation is through following the commandments, values, ethical principles and ideals of YHVH. Violence and killing puts you at a distance from God (Num 31:19–24), and violence committed in the name of religion is blasphemy (it breaks the 3rd commandment).
24. Marriage and sexual relations are permitted with underage girls
Islamist position:
Muhammad married Aisha when she was six or seven, and had sexual relations with her when she was nine (this is recorded in Aisha’s own words). Consequently, because Islamists consider Muhammad’s behaviour the perfect exemplar of moral human behaviour, in Islamic countries elderly men regularly get married to very young, pre-pubescent girls girls (e.g. Pakistan, Afghanistan). Puberty is not a legal prerequisite for marriage itself in Sharia law.
- Quran 65:4 – “And those [older women] who no longer menstruate among your women – if you doubt, then their lawful [waiting] period [before divorce] is three months, and [the same for pre-pubescent girls], those who have never menstruated. And for those who are pregnant, their [waiting] term is until they give birth…” (iddah refers to the legal waiting period before divorce, during which a woman cannot remarry)
- Quran 33:49 – “O you who believe, when you marry believing women and then divorce them before you have touched them, then there is no waiting period for you to observe concerning them…”
- Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Marriage, Hadith 5133 – “The Prophet married me when I was six years old, and he consummated the marriage with me when I was nine years old.” (these are Aisha’s own words)
- Sahih Muslim, Book of Marriage, Hadith 1422 (similarly Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Virtues, Hadith 3896, Ibn Hisham, Sirat Rasul Allah, section on Aisha, al-Tabari, History of Prophets and Kings Vol. 9) – “Aisha reported: Allah’s Messenger married her when she was six years old, and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and she remained with him for nine years.”
- Ibn Qudamah, al-Mughni, Vol. 9 – “It is permissible for a father to marry off his young daughter, even if she is in the cradle… There is no difference of opinion about this among the scholars.”
- al-Nawawi, Sharh Sahih Muslim, commentary on Hadith 1422 – “This hadith establishes the permissibility of marrying off a young girl, and her guardian may contract marriage for her even if she is below the age of puberty.”
These sources are not fringe in traditional Islam; they are mainstream, canonical, and authoritative within classical Sunni orthodoxy.
Talmidi position:
Even though it is recognised that in ancient times, marriage was occasionally carried out with 13-year old girls, nevertheless, Talmidaism, Karaism and Rabbinic Judaism do not allow marriage between anyone under the age of 18 – you have to consider the overall sum of what the Miqra contains, and the Miqra does not condone marriage or sexual relations with underage children.
The age for military service is 20 (Num 1:2-3, 1:45). Taking other considerations into account (such as various military restrictions on betrothed and newly married men, Dt 24:5, 20:5–7), the youngest age possible for marriage would be 18. Twenty is not merely a physical combat threshold but a moral-adult threshold (it is the age for covenantal responsibilities, Ex 30:14). Biblical adulthood does not equate to biological maturity — it is moral, civic, and covenantal maturity. Thirteen is when a child becomes responsible for Torah laws (e.g. at Bar or Bat Mitzvah), not marriage.
From a Talmidi perspective, this matters because it shows:
- Torah does not treat puberty as adulthood
- Torah does not sexualise children into adult roles
- Torah requires demonstrable maturity before assigning military or covenantal responsibility
Marriage in the Miqra requires mature, informed consent (Gen 2:24). This establishes marriage as a voluntary act of separation from parents, and a mutual, conscious joining. Marriage is also a covenant of full knowledge, not a mere transaction (Malachi 2:14, Proverbs 2:16–17). Marriage is therefore a covenant before God, entered into by moral equals, and requiring understanding, memory, and adult agency. Furthermore, children below 18 are considered ‘legally vulnerable’ (based on Ex 22:22–23, Dt 24:17), and therefore require protection from exploitation (which would be the case below 18). Sexual ethics in the Miqra require adult moral agency (e.g. Lev 18:6).
Furthermore, Yeshua forbids harm to children (Mt 18:6) – marriage below 18 would be considered harm, for childhood is sacred (Mt 19:14).
James 1:27 teaches, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress…” James defines authentic faith as being protective of the vulnerable; it is gentle, not coercive; and morally pure, not exploitative. Child marriage would fail every one of these criteria.
The Core Talmidi Principle Behind the 18-Year Standard
While Scripture gives no overt numeric age, Judaism and Talmidaism infer a minimum ethical threshold from Scripture’s moral requirements:
Marriage requires:
1. Informed consent
2. Covenant comprehension
3. Legal and moral agency
4. Physical and psychological maturity
5. Ability to leave parental authority
6. Equality of dignity and power
These conditions are not met by minors.
Talmidaism rejects marriage under 18 because:
• The Miqra defines marriage as a covenant entered by morally equal, consenting adults
• Torah prioritises protecting the vulnerable from exploitation
• Yeshua explicitly forbids harming or sexualising children
• James defines true religion as gentle, protective, and morally pure
• Children cannot meet the ethical requirements Scripture places on marriage
Therefore, Child marriage is not merely “unwise” in biblical ethics — it is a violation of God’s justice, covenantal intent, and divine compassion.
25. Polytheists and other pagans must be killed
Islamist position:
Jews and Christians are merely tolerated as ‘people of the Book’, as long as they pay the jizya tax (money paid so that you will not be killed by Muslims). However, polytheists and other pagans do not have this benefit or protection; the Quran orders that they be killed, wherever they are found.
When the Muslim armies began their invasion of Sindh and India, there arose the question of what to do with Hindus. With Jews and Christians, there are 3 options: Convert, Pay the jizya tax and live as Dhimmis (subjugated people with restricted civil and religious rights), or be killed if you refuse both. With Pagans there are only two options: Convert, or be killed. That meant that when Muslims invaded India, they gave Hindus only two choices.
Early Muslim leaders, starting with Muhammad bin Qasim in 712 AD, realized that enforcing conversion under the threat of death was not sustainable for ruling a massive, non-Muslim majority. Consequently, they realised mass culling of pagans was logistically unachievable. So they extended the Dhimmi laws and jizya tax to Hindus. Political pragmatism and economic necessity won out.
The peaceful verses in the Quran, such as “There is no compulsion in religion.” (2:256), are deemed to have been abrogated and cancelled, because the following verses were given later:
- Quran 9:5 – “Then when the sacred months have passed, kill the polytheists wherever you find them, capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent (i.e. if they convert to Islam), establish prayer, and give zakah, then let them go on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” (forgiveness and mercy are only available for Muslims)
- Quran 9:29 – “Fight those who do not believe in Allah nor in the Last Day… among the People of the Book, until they give the jizyah willingly while humbled.”
- Quran 8:39 – “Fight them until there is no more fitnah [conflict and civil unrest], and religion is for Allah alone.”
- Quran 2:191–193 – “Kill them [the polytheists] wherever you find them… for fitnah [conflict and civil unrest] is worse than killing.”
- Sahih Bukhari 25; Sahih Muslim 22 – “I have been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah…”
Talmidi position:
No one should be made to suffer or be killed on the basis of their religion. Whatever religion a person belongs to, the expectation is that you try to co-exist and get along with each other, and do not enter into conflict with one another. Deliberately seeking conflict with other religions, especially if you are not native to a place, is breaking the hospitality laws, with regard to the duties of a guest towards their host nation.
26. Non-Muslims must be socially humiliated and viewed with contempt
The purpose of Islamic authority is to control conquered populations. Part of that process is that Muslims must treat non-Muslims with contempt, since non-Muslims living under Muslim rule have a subordinate, inferior status (called dhimmis). Hardline Islamists often emphasise the political supremacy of Muslims, and the ongoing humiliation of dhimmīs.
Islamist reasoning typically runs as follows:
- Muslims are superior to everyone else, the “best nation” (3:110).
- Disbelievers are spiritually inferior (98:6).
- Non-Muslims under Islamic rule must pay jizyah “while humiliated” (9:29).
- Muslims must not show loyalty or affection toward them (5:51; 58:22).
- Therefore, social hierarchy and apartheid, and visible subordination, are divinely mandated.
Classical Dhimmah Regulations
Classical jurists developed rules based on Quran 9:29 that included:
- Payment of jizyah to humiliate non-Muslims.
- Restrictions on public religious symbols of non-Muslims.
- Prohibitions on building new churches or synagogues.
- Distinctive dress for dhimmis in certain historical periods.
Some medieval jurists interpreted “ṣāghirūn” (“humiliated / humbled”) as requiring:
- Visible markers of subordination.
- Obligation to show deference to Muslims in public spaces.
Sources:
- Quran 58:22 – “You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred…”
- Quran 9:29 – “Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day… among the People of the Book, until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humiliated (wa-hum ṣāghirūn).”
- Quran 5:51 – “O you who believe, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies…”
- Quran 58:22 – “You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger…”
- Quran 98:6 – “Indeed, those who disbelieve among the People of the Book and the polytheists will be in the Fire of Hell… They are the worst of creatures.”
- Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2167: The Prophet said, “Do not initiate greetings with the Jews or the Christians, and when you meet one of them on the road, force him to the narrowest part of it.”
- Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith 3052: “Islam is superior and nothing is superior to it.”
Talmidi position:
All human beings are children of God, created in the image of God; therefore no Jew should look down on Gentiles, or treat them as inferior. To do so is to insult God, who commanded that we show kindness to foreigners among us, and not oppress or abuse them – they are to be subject to the same laws and civil rights as Jews (Ex 22:21, 23:9, Lev 19:10, 19:35-36, Num 15:14-15, Dt 1:16, 5:14, 10:18-19, 14:29, 16:14, 24:14, 24:17, 24:19-21).
27. Black Africans are spiritually Inferior to Arabs
Muhammad was proud to be white; he believed that Satan was like a black African, and that Africans were natural slaves. Islamic Empires enslaved many millions of Africans, more by far than the entirety of the Christian world put together. They prevented male African slaves from having children with Arabs by castrating them all. A number of fundamentalist Muslim countries still keep slaves.
To give some important cultural context:
- In early Arabic usage, “white” (abyad) often also meant:
- Noble
- Honourable
- Free (as opposed to enslaved)
- Clear-complexioned
- ‘Black’ (aswad) could also refer to:
- Dark-complexioned
- Sometimes metaphorically low status
- Enslaved / not free
Muhammad was white (abyad), because that is how he is described in a number of places, e.g.:
- Jami at-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1754: “The Messenger of Allah was white with a reddish complexion…”
Mohammed was described as being exceptionally white (Sahih al-Bukhari 63, Sahih Muslim 1119, 6071); he was proud of being white; he bought and kept black slaves (Sahih al-Bukhari 6161, 7263), whom he put to death if they disobeyed him (Sunan an-Nasai 3858); and he made his black slaves especially do all the heaviest work, because he believed black people were worth less than Arabs (Sahih Muslim 66). He referred to black people as ‘raisin-heads’ (Sahih al-Bukhari 7142), used the image of black people as an example of the worst form of human life (Sahih al-Bukhari 3138), and believed that Satan was made in the image of black people (Ibn Ishaq, page 243). After Mohammed died, if anyone claimed that Mohammed was black, they were to be put to death (Ash-Shifa, section 5). Anyone who says Mohammed was a compassionate liberator of slaves is basing their ideas on later myths and made-up folktales, not on the original Muslim sources.
Other Sources for negative views of Black People:
- Quran 3:106-107 – “On the Day [of Resurrection], [some] faces will become white and [some] faces will turn black. As for those whose faces turn black, [to them Allah will say], ‘Did you disbelieve [in Islam] after believing? Then taste the punishment [in hell] for what you have rejected!’ But as for those whose faces will become white, [they will find themselves] within the mercy of Allah. They will abide there in [Paradise] eternally.” (the skin of good people will be white, and the skin of bad people will be black)
- Hadith Mishkat vol. 3, page 117-118: “Abu Darda reported that the Holy Prophet said, ‘Allah created Adam when he created him. He stroked his right shoulder and took out the white race, since they were [good] seeds, and then took out the black race, as if they were burning coals. Then he said to those [white people] who were on his right side: ‘[Go] towards Paradise, I don’t care. He said to those [black people] who were on his left shoulder: [Go] towards the fire [of Hell], I don’t care.”
Talmidi position:
All human beings are children of God, created in the image of God; therefore all ethnic groups are spiritually equal before God. Both Jews and Gentiles have equal access to God. To make distinctions on the basis of skin colour, ethnic origin, nationality, or place of birth, is to insult what God has purposefully created, and therefore is directly insulting God’s own Self as the Creator of humanity’s varied ethnic groups.
28. In Paradise after death, all Jihadi men will receive 72 virgins to have eternal sex with them
Islamist position:
Paradise (Jannah, the Muslim version of heaven), is an eternal brothel, where men (and only men) get to have sex for all eternity with 72 virgins. This belief by Muhammad was likely taught to encourage his male followers to obey him, fired by the thought of eternal reward of sex when they die.
Sources:
- Quran 44:54 – “So it will be. And We will marry them [Muslims who died in jihad] to ḥūr [celestial virgins] with large, beautiful eyes.” (describes companions in Paradise; some moderates try to claim that ḥūr are grapes, but grapes do not have beautiful eyes)
- Quran 56:22-23 – “And [for them are] ḥūr with large, beautiful eyes, Like pearls well-protected.”
- Quran 78:31-33 – “Indeed, for the righteous is attainment – Gardens and grapevines, And full-breasted companions of equal age.” (again, grapes do not have breasts)
- Quran 52:20 – “They will recline on thrones lined up, and We will marry them [Muslims who died in jihad] to fair women with large, beautiful eyes.”
- Quran 55:56 – “In them are women limiting [their] glances, untouched before them by man or jinn.”
- Quran 55:72-74 – “Fair ones reserved in pavilions…whom no man or jinn has touched before them.”
- Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Hadith (Book of Jihad, no. 1663 in some editions): The Messenger of Allah said, “The martyr will have six things……and he will be married to seventy-two wives from among the ḥūr al-ʿayn…”
- Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith (no. 4337): The Messenger of Allah said, “The martyr will be given……seventy-two wives from the maidens of Paradise…”
- Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal: The Messenger of Allah said, “…he will be married to seventy-two of the ḥūr al-ʿayn…”
- Jami` at-Tirmidhi: “Each of them will have wives, and the marrow of their legs will be visible through the flesh…”
- Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith no. 4337: “Every time he has intercourse with her, she returns to being a virgin again.”
- Jami` at-Tirmidhi, Hadith 2536: The Messenger of Allah said, “The believer in Paradise will be given enormous strength in intercourse.” They said: ‘O Messenger of God, will he be able to do that?’ He said: ‘He will be given the strength of one hundred men.’”
- Sahih al-Bukhari (Book of Bathing / Creation): “The believer will be given in Paradise the strength of so many men in sexual intercourse.”
- Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal: The Messenger of Allah said, “He [the Jihadi in Paradise] will go around to his wives… and none of them will have been touched so that she will be found to be a virgin.”
When these Hadith are read together, they form the idea that:
- Men in Paradise have greatly increased sexual capacity
- The companions (ḥūr) are:
- perpetually youthful
- physically restored after each encounter
- The experience is described as repeating without loss of the women’s virginity or change
Talmidi position:
In heaven, we are pure spirit – we have no physical bodies (Mk 12:18-25, Mt 22:30), because we will have transcended our need for earthly bodies, dwelling in the eternal blessedness of God. Ancient Yahwism was opposed to the sexualising of religion; in the Hebrew Bible, there are incidents where pagan cult prostitutes are described (Dt 23:17–18, 1Kgs 14:24, 2Kgs 23:7), and places where God is greatly displeased with this way of practising religion (Lev 18:3, 20:23, Num 25:6-8, Dt 12:29-31).
Across these biblical passages, a consistent pattern emerges:
1. Sexualised religion is:
- called “whoredom”
- labelled an abomination
- associated with foreign (pagan) worship
2. YHVH’s response:
- anger (Numbers 25)
- judgment and punishment
- commands to eradicate such practices
3. Positive ideal:
- Worship of YHVH is to be:
- non-sexualised
- ethically ordered
- distinct from fertility cults
All of these verses present sexualised religion as both morally corrupt and fundamentally incompatible with devotion to YHVH.
29. Dogs are Detestable and Unclean, and should not be kept in the house as pets
Islamist position:
Dogs are considered unclean and unpleasant animals. They are only used in hunting or herding other animals. Otherwise, it is believed that angels will not enter a house where a dog is kept, and Allah will not hear your prayers if a dog passes in front of you while you are praying. Muhammad hated dogs. In some Muslim countries, you will see children tormenting dogs in the street, because they have been taught to hate dogs by their parents. In western countries, Muslims have been known to berate and castigate non-Muslims for walking their dogs.
Sources:
- Sahih Muslim 1572: “The Messenger of Allah ordered that the dogs should be killed…”
- Sahih Muslim 1570: “Allah’s Messenger ordered the killing of dogs, and we sent [men] to Medina and its corners and we did not spare any dog that we did not kill…”
- Sahih al-Bukhari 3225, Sahih Muslim 2106: The Prophet said, “The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or images.”
- Sahih al-Bukhari 2322, Sahih Muslim 1575: The Prophet said, “Whoever keeps a dog, except a dog for herding livestock or hunting, his good deeds decrease every day by two qirats.”
- Sahih Muslim 279, Sahih al-Bukhari 172: The Prophet said, “If a dog licks the vessel of any one of you, he must wash it seven times, the first of them with earth.”
- Sahih Muslim 510: The Prophet said, “The black dog is a devil.”
- Sira / early biographical traditions (Paralleled in Sahih Muslim 1573): “The Messenger of Allah ordered the killing of dogs, then [it was] said: ‘What is the matter with them and dogs?’ So he permitted keeping dogs for hunting and herding.” (In early biographical literature about Muhammad, such as works attributed to Ibn Ishaq and later redactions, reports appear that dogs in Medina were initially ordered to be killed. Later some exceptions were made e.g. for hunting or guarding)
From these sources, stricter interpretations typically derive:
- Dogs are ritually impure (hadith on washing vessels)
- Keeping dogs reduces spiritual reward
- Dogs prevent angelic presence
- There was an early command to kill dogs, later restricted
- Dogs are only acceptable for functional roles (hunting, guarding, herding)
Talmidi position:
Any society can be judged by how it treats animals. In Torah, dogs are classed as ‘ritually unclean’ (just like horses and donkeys are). What that means is that we cannot eat them. However, we have a duty of care towards God’s creation and God’s creatures, so that means we can look after them, keep them as pets, emotionally bond with them, and we must NEVER abuse them or mistreat them, because they all belong to God – we have a God-given duty of care towards them.
In ancient times, there was a general Semitic cultural dislike of dogs, since at that time, there also existed wild dogs in desert areas (not just feral dogs, but real, semi-wild ancestors of dogs; the descendants of these are the breed of dog known as the Canaan dog). That is why the earliest parts of the Miqra have a negative view of dogs — they are specifically referring to these wild, scavenging dogs, not domesticated dogs. However, Ex 11:7 suggests that dogs lived among the neighbourhoods of the Israelites in Goshen, Egypt. Job 30:1 implies that dogs were used as guardian and herding animals. In wider Jewish culture, there is an emphasis placed on kindness to animals (tsaʿar baʿalei ḥayyim — the prohibition against causing suffering to living creatures. Dogs are generally recognised for their loyalty to humans in modern Jewish culture (the Hebrew name Caleb comes from the word for dog, kelev, because even then, dogs were recognised for their loyalty).
Concluding Clarification
Hitler once commented that Islam was more compatible with Nazism: “The Mohammedan religion too would have been much more compatible to us than Christianity. Why did it have to be Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness?” You can now understand why.
To be very clear:
- These positions of Islamists are real, textually grounded, and still taught in extremist contexts.
- They are rejected by some Muslims, especially moderate and reformist ones.
- They are fundamentally incompatible with Talmidi ethics, prophetic Judaism, and the ethical teachings of Yeshua.
Talmidaism stands firmly for:
- Covenantal agreement over coercion
- Individual Moral responsibility
- Human dignity and worth
- Justice before power
- Peace over domination
Closing thoughts
As for what God thinks of all this, I can only speak from my personal religious experiences: God is extremely saddened, and in profound grief when people turn religion into an instrument of violence and cruelty. They desecrate the Holiness of God, causing God to withdraw from them. Cruelty of this sustained level and magnitude cannot go unanswered. There will come a reckoning, and people who make oppression, suffering, cruelty, hatred and violence part of their religious life will not find paradise. They will instead receive full gemulah for their misdeeds in the Outer Darkness, and when they emerge, they will only be seated at the left hand of God. If they ever wish to find eternal peace with God, such people need to repent of their cruelty and violence before it is too late, and instead serve God’s Kingdom by serving the ways of peace – specifically, by helping the very peoples they have previously harmed, for the rest of their natural lives. Otherwise all the suffering they have inflicted on others, will be returned to them in full into their laps in the Outer Darkness.
