The Purpose of God Giving the Gift of Wisdom to Human Beings

by Shmuel Parzal | Oct 14, 2026 | Uncategorized

YHVH, the living God of Israel and of all the Nations, has various ‘aspects’ or powers that are inseparable from who and what YHVH is. YHVH’s Davar (transformative Message), YHVH’s Kavod (cleansing and purifying Glory), and YHVH’s Qedushah (Holiness which repels evil), are all Powers that YHVH possesses. Wisdom too (Hokhmah) is an active power of YHVH, not just a concept, or even a creation of God.

YHVH’s Wisdom enters a person so that they may develop on the right path to know God, so that they perceive, judge, act and speak rightly. The gift of Wisdom changes the way a person perceives reality. A person without Divine Wisdom looks at all the information, opinions and knowledge that exist, and give equal weight to all of it, unable to discern which are true and lead to God, and which are false or distracting, and take a human soul away from knowing God. They are pulled this way and that by competing opinions, views and beliefs; they see every shiny new teaching as a possible way to God, but they lead only to dead ends.

Once a person has been gifted with Wisdom by YHVH, they are able to discern righteous and good information from misleading and false information, and so their formative learning is swift, undistracted by false leads and diving down empty rabbit-holes.

Someone whose heart is for YHVH, and who has a reverent awe for YHVH, is soon gifted with Wisdom – they have the humility not to elevate their own imperfect human ideas above the teachings of God. They have the humility to say, “I don’t know what to believe; teach me therefore, O YHVH my God, what to believe! Teach me in the Way I should walk, and strengthen me with an undivided heart!”
